The 2022 MLB season goes on Saturday, April 9, with plenty of interesting matchups around the league, including the NL West battle at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado, so we bring you the best Dodgers vs. Rockies betting pick along with the latest odds update on BetOnline Sportsbook.

Los Angeles and Colorado continue their three-game series, and Friday’s opener has been excluded from the analysis. Last year, the Dodgers have won 13 of their 19 encounters with the Rockies.

The Dodgers hope to extend their dominance over the Rockies

The Los Angeles Dodgers entered the new season as top favorites to win the World Series. They sit at +450 on BetOnline Sportsbook, while you can take the Dodgers at -240 to win the NL West. Los Angeles lost Corey Seager, AJ Pollock, and Kenley Jansen in free agency, but the Dodgers managed to sign Freddy Freeman on a six-year deal.

Freeman, who won the 2021 World Series with the Atlanta Braves, should be a massive boost for the already-loaded Los Angeles lineup. The five-time All-Star slashed .300/.393/.503 this past regular season while leading the National League in runs scored (120).

Tony Gonsolin will get the starting call Saturday, and the talented 27-year-old right-hander had some injury problems in 2021. He went 4-1 in 13 starts and a couple of relief appearances, posting a 3.23 ERA, 4.54 FIP, 1.35 WHIP, and 65/34 K/BB ratio across 55.2 innings of work. Gonsolin is 2-1 with a 1.40 ERA in four career starts and one relief appearance against the Rockies.

The Rockies look to upset the odds in 2022

The Colorado Rockies are considered huge underdogs in the NL West with their odds to win the divisional crown at +12500. They signed Kris Bryant in the offseason but lost Trevor Story, who decided to join the Red Sox.

The Rockies’ pitching staff remains a big problem. German Marquez and Kyle Freeland had a lot of ups and downs in 2021, while the Rockies’ bullpen was pretty much awful, recording the fifth-worst ERA in the majors (4.91).

Marquez will get the nod Saturday, and the 27-year-old righty went 12-11 in 32 starts last regular season. Through 180 innings of work, he’s registered a 4.40 ERA, 3.86 FIP, 1.27 WHIP, and 176/64 K/BB ratio. Marquez is 2-1 with a 3.47 ERA in 13 career starts against the Dodgers. He met LA twice in 2021, yielding six earned runs on 12 hits and ten walks across eight frames of work.

Trends:

LA Dodgers:

  • 13-5 in the last 18 games against Colorado
  • 16-4 in the last 20 games against the NL West

Colorado:

  • 2-7 in the last nine home games against the Dodgers
  • 2-10 in the last 12 games against the NL West

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Colorado Rockies Pick

Tony Gonsolin has allowed three earned runs on six hits and a walk across nine innings of work at Coors Field. He should fare well in this matchup, but even if Gonsolin starts to struggle, the Dodgers have plenty of dangerous weapons in their bullpen.

On the other side, German Marquez will have to give five or six strong innings or the Rockies will be in big trouble. The Rockies’ bullpen is the main reason why I’m backing the Dodgers to come out on top.

Pick: Take Los Angeles Dodgers

The Total:

Eight of the last ten encounters between the Dodgers and Rockies in Colorado have produced 11 or more runs in the total. Coors Field is a typical hitter-friendly ballpark, so I’m going with the over on the totals.

German Marquez struggled against the Dodgers in 2021. He’ll have a tall task to slow down one of the most dangerous lineups in baseball. On the other side, the Rockies slashed .280/.342/.475 at home this past regular season.

Pick: Go over
