VCU has won the last four meetings between these teams, including a 53-52 victory back on January 5. Elijah Weaver is listed as questionable for the Flyers. Jimmy Nichols is questionable for the Rams. Jarren McAllister and Jamir Watkins are out.

Flyers Soaring into Contest

The Dayton Flyers (14-7) enter this contest on a roll after defeating Rhode Island on Friday, 53-51. The Flyers have won six of their last seven games but enter the contest 2-3 on the road this season. Dayton is 4-6 ATS in their last 10.

The Flyers held off Rhode Island in a 53-51 victory. Dayton struggled from the floor, hitting 30.9% of their shots, including 26.9% in the second half. Toumani Camara led the way with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Camara is the second leading scorer at 10.5 points per game. He is shooting 48.0% from the field and is averaging 6.7 rebounds per game, tops on the Flyers.

Dayton wins with strong defense, 21st in the nation at 60.7 points allowed per game. Despite averaging just 68.0 points per game, this is a solid shooting team, 53rd in the nation in field-goal percentage (46.8%). Even when they struggle, as they did against Rhode Island, they can use their strong defense to win games.

Rams Look to Extend Win Streak

The VCU Rams (13-6) won their third straight game when they defeated Richmond on Saturday, 64-62. VCU is 6-3 at home. The Rams are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games.

VCU took a three-point lead into the half over Richmond before holding on for the two-point victory. Vince Williams led the way with 22 points and 10 rebounds. He also added eight assists. Williams is the leading scorer at 12.9 points per game, and also leads in rebounds at 6.2 per contest. He is a 45.2% shooter, hitting 75.9% of his shots from the free-throw line.

The Rams are another team looking to win with defense, 11th in the nation in points allowed at 58.9. This is not a very good shooting team, especially from the free-throw line where they are 341st in the nation (64.9%). They won with defense, holding two of their last three opponents to 52 points or fewer.

Trends:

Dayton:

  • 1-4 ATS in their last five games on Wednesday.
  • 1-4 ATS in their last five games following an ATS loss.

VCU:

  • 7-0 ATS in their last seven games on a Wednesday.
  • 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games.

Pick: VCU Rams at -3.5 (-110)

This should be an outstanding game as you have two of the best defensive clubs in the nation squaring off against one another. That should keep this contest close, and the fact that VCU is not a good free-throw shooting team gives Dayton a clear advantage. However, the Rams do a great job at creating turnovers, averaging better than three steals per game more than what Dayton produces.

VCU has lost just two games in their last six, and those came against No. 6 Baylor and No. 22 Connecticut. No need to hang your head low when you lose to teams like that. The Rams have dominated this series of late.

The Total: Go over 114.5 (-110)

This total is not surprising at all. Combined these teams are allowing a little over 119 points per game, and neither is particularly adept when it comes to shooting. While Dayton is 53rd in the nation in field-goal percentage, they are also 341st in field-goal attempts per game. Plus, the Flyers are 191st in three-point shooting (33.7%) and 209th in free-throw percentage (70.2%).

Neither of these teams likes to push the ball, which should drive down the scoring. Plus, they love to play a defensive battle. Look for no more than 112 points scored in this game.
