Chicago and New York wrap up their seven-game regular-season series Sunday, May 22, with a twin bill at Yankee Stadium in New York. We have prepared the best White Sox vs. Yankees betting pick for the second game of Sunday’s doubleheader along with the latest odds update on BetOnline Sportsbook

The Yanks beat the Chi Sox 7-5 as firm -230 moneyline favorites in Saturday’s opener of a three-game set in New York. Last week, the Yankees outlasted the White Sox in three of their four encounters at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago.

The White Sox continue to struggle, lost three of their last four

The Chicago White Sox managed to score five runs in Saturday’s matinee at Yankee Stadium, but their pitching staff cost them a victory. Dallas Keuchel had a bad day in the office and yielded six earned runs across four frames of work, while Jose Ruiz allowed one more in the bottom of the sixth.

The White Sox have dropped three of their last four tilts and seven of their previous 12 contests at any location. They are 19-20 on the season and sit at the second spot in the AL Central, four games behind the Minnesota Twins.

Michael Kopech will toe the slab Sunday, searching for his first win in 2022. The 26-year-old righty owns a 0-1 record along with a sparkly 1.54 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, 2.75 FIP, and 33/17 K/BB ratio across 35 innings of work (seven starts). He met the Yankees last Sunday and took a loss in a 5-1 home defeat, surrendering three earned runs on one hit and four walks through six innings.

The Yankees returned to the winning ways

The New York Yankees bounced back from a tough 9-6 defeat at the Baltimore Orioles with that 7-5 victory over the White Sox. It was their tenth win in the last 12 outings, as the Yanks improved their MLB-best record to 29-10.

The Bombers destroyed Dallas Keuchel, while Nestor Cortes fanned seven across five frames of a three-run ball. Michael King yielded a couple of runs in relief, while Clay Holmes recorded his fourth save of the season.

Jameson Taillon and Luis Severino are projected to take the mound, but it’s still unknown who’ll get the starting call in the first clash of a doubleheader and who’ll meet the Chi Sox in the closer. Taillon is 4-1 with a 3.28 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 27/4 K/BB ratio in seven starts in 2022, while Severino is 3-0 with a 3.63 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and 38/11 K/BB ratio in seven starts.

Trends:

Chi Sox:

  • 2-11 in the last 13 games against the Yankees
  • 1-4 in Michael Kopech’s last five starts

NY Yankees:

  • 10-2 in the last 12 games overall
  • 5-1 in the last six games at home

Chicago White Sox vs. New York Yankees Pick

The White Sox will certainly face the righty in this one, so it’s tough to trust their offense. Chicago’s bats are slashing only .226/.279/.339 against the right-handed pitchers. On the other side, Michael Kopech has done a great job for the Chi Sox, but he’s also enjoyed his worst start of the season against the Yankees.

New York is hitting .249/.333/.419 against the righties. Over their last six games, the Yanks have scored 32 runs while slashing .240/.335/.400 with eight home runs.

Pick: Take New York Yankees at -175

The Total:

The White Sox have scored only 24 runs in their last seven games, slashing .248/.297/.354 in the process. Their bullpen has registered a 4.44 ERA, 3.05 FIP, and .338 BABIP, so the White Sox desperately need more from their offense if they want to win this game.

On the other side, the Yankees’ offense has been consistent since Opening Day, while their bullpen has posted a 3.63 ERA, 2.97 FIP, and .304 BABIP over the last seven days. Hereof, I would go with the over. It’s the second game of a twin bill and the final clash of the week, so there might be some tired arms in the bullpens.

Pick: Go over 9.0 runs at +100
