The Warriors erased a 19-point deficit to grab Game 2           

The Golden State Warriors trounced the Mavericks in the opening clash of the series, and Game 2 was way more interesting to watch. The Dubs trailed by 14 points at halftime and by as many as 19, but they completely outplayed the Mavs in the second half to take a 2-0 lead in the conference finals. 

Golden State outscored Dallas 25-13 in the third quarter and 43-32 in the fourth. Stephen Curry finished with 32 points, eight rebounds, and five assists; Jordan Poole added 23 points off the bench, while Kevon Looney was an X-factor with a 21-point, 12-rebound double-double. 

The Warriors made 56.1% of their field goals and went 14-for-28 from beyond the arc in Game 2. They handed out 33 assists and accounted for a whopping 62 points in the paint. Also, the Dubs outrebounded the Mavs 43-30, allowing only four offensive rebounds to their rivals. 

The Mavs are in a must-win situation    

The Dallas Mavericks fell apart in the second half of Game 2, as their defense was awful once more, allowing the Dubs to score almost at will. On the other side of the ball, they had a 13-point third quarter, and the Mavs finished with just 30 points in the paint and four offensive rebounds. 

Luka Doncic amassed 42 points, eight assists, five rebounds, and three steals last Friday, but it wasn’t enough. He got help from Jalen Brunson and Reggie Bullock, while the rest of the team was terrible. Brunson had 31 points, seven boards, and five dimes, and Bullock added 21 points while going 6-for-10 from deep. 

The Mavs shot 47.4% from the field and 46.7% from beyond the 3-point line (21-for-45) in Game 2. Back in the opener, Dallas made only 36.0% of its field goals and 22.9% of its 3-pointers (11-for-48).

The Mavericks have to avoid a 3-0 haul, and I still have faith in this Dallas team to beat the Warriors on the home court. After a horrible display in Game 1, the Mavericks have found a way to score against the stout Dubs defense, but their defense will have to improve a lot. 

Dallas went 3-1 SU and ATS in its four-game regular-season series against Golden State. The Mavs are undefeated in five straight outings at American Airlines Center, so I’m hoping for a bounce-back performance in front of the home fans. They’ve gone 11-1 SU and 10-1-1 ATS over the last 12 showings at home.

The Total:

The under is 4-1 in Dallas’ last five showings as a fave, and it is 4-2 in Golden State’s previous six outings as an underdog. Also, 14 of the Mavericks’ last 20 home contests have gone under the total, so I would ride those betting trends. 

If they want to beat the Warriors, the Mavericks have to play tough defense for all 48 minutes and slow down the pace as much as possible.
