The Baylor Bears have turned into the Big 12 version of the Oregon Ducks. Baylor is averaging more than 70 points a game after four games this season. The Bears have yet to play a road game though, and they’ll have to go to Kansas State to take on Bill Snyder’s Wildcats this week. Kansas State is one of those teams that is an extremely tough matchup every year. Let’s take a closer look at this contest.
Baylor comes into this game first in the nation in total offense. The Bears are averaging a ridiculous 782 yards per game this season. They have put up at least 69 points in each game so far this year. To say that this offense has been putting up video game numbers is almost an understatement at this point. Bryce Petty has been sensational at quarterback for the Bears. Petty is completing 73% of his passes, and he has thrown only one interception all season. Lache Seastrunk is averaging 11.1 yards per carry, and he is proving to be one of the nation’s best running backs. Seastrunk has game changing speed, and he has the ability to take it the distance at any time.
The offense has been tremendous, but Baylor’s defensive improvement is something that should not be overlooked either. The Bears are 17th in the nation in total defense so far this year. They are giving up just 16.2 points per game. In the past, this Baylor defense was one of the worst in the country. If this defense can continue its play through the rest of the season, this team is going to be very difficult to beat.
Bill Snyder is one of the best coaches in college football. You just can’t deny how amazing of a job he has done with this team. Kansas State doesn’t get elite talent, and every year people think the team will be down, but Snyder just continually puts together a very good team. This season has actually been his worst season in recent memory thus far. Kansas State is 2-3 coming into this game. The Wildcats miss Collin Klein in a big way. Offensively, the Wildcats are juts 83rd in the nation in total offense.
How can Kansas State win this game? I expect Kansas State to try to run the football and control the tempo of this game. The Wildcats can’t win a shootout with Baylor, and they know that. Runnings back John Hubert and Daniel Sams should get a ton of carries this week. Star receiver Tyler Lockett is questionable for this one, and the Wildcats really need his play making ability. Defensively, Kansas State’s secondary has been the strength of the team thus far. They’ll need to work hard to keep everything in front of them this week.
Free Pick: Under 72
The Bears offense is amazing, but they can’t keep up the pace they have been on of late. Look for Kansas State to play keep away and run the clock here.
