A National League East showdown is set for Saturday afternoon when the Atlanta Braves (18-9, 11-2 away) visit the New York Mets (15-12, 5-5 home). Atlanta is going to dominate the regular season for years to come, but the Mets will not just let them win the NL East without a fight. Below is my MLB pick for the Braves vs Mets.
The Pick: Atlanta Braves -169 @ BetUs
This game will be played at Citi Field at 4:05 p.m. on Saturday, April 29, 2023.
✅ Atlanta is hitting their stride and have won four of their last five games played.
✅ On the road, the Braves have won nine of their last 10 games away from Truist Park.
✅ New York is in a rough patch and have lost five of their last six games played.
The Atlanta Braves have been on fire of late and started this series off with a bit of luck. Atlanta jumped out to a comfortable 4-0 lead and earned the win when the game was called in the fifth inning due to rain. Already in a good position, the Braves got to save their bullpen and get a series opening win. Atlanta is coming off a series that saw them win three of four against the Miami Marlins.
Spencer Strider is set to make his sixth start of the season and he will look to build on his Cy Young level start. Strider has a 1.8- ERA, 0.83 WHIP, and 49 strikeouts in 30.0 innings pitched.
Matt Olson is mashing this season and he leads the Braves with eight home runs and 25 RBIs. Ronald Acuna Jr. is setting the ball as well as anyone in MLB and he leads Atlanta with a .352 batting average.
The New York Mets are Struggling
New York won’t be happy with the loss, but they will be happy to have saved some bullpen arms Friday night as they are coming off a poor early week performance. The Mets visited the poor Washington Nationals and left losing two of three games in the Nation’s Capital. A bad performance against a terrible team.
Tylor Megill is grabbing the ball for the sixth time this year and he will look to improve on his mediocre start. The righty has a 3.96 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in 25.0 innings pitched.
