The 2022 MLB season goes on Thursday, June 30, with the AL West showdown from T-Mobile Park in Seattle, so we have prepared the best Athletics vs. Mariners betting pick along with the latest odds update on BetDSI Sportsbook.

Oakland and Seattle start a four-game series, and the Mariners are firm -200 home favorites for Thursday’s clash. The Athletics are listed as +185 moneyline underdogs, and the totals sit at 7.5 runs.

The A’s continue to struggle

At the time of writing, the 25-51 Oakland Athletics trailed the New York Yankees 5-3 in a three-game series finale at Yankee Stadium. The A’s were looking to avoid a sweep and improve their MLB-worst record. They’ve gone only 4-11 in their previous 15 games overall.

Oakland is scoring just 3.17 runs per game (29th in the MLB) on a .210/.273/.327 triple-slash (.242/.312/.394 league average). The A’s have slashed an abysmal .210/.262/.300 in the last couple of weeks while posting a 4.58 ERA and 1.50 WHIP.

Adrian Martinez will be called up to face the Mariners on Thursday. The 25-year-old righty made his major-league debut on May 10 and tossed 5.1 shutout innings in a 4-1 victory at the Detroit Tigers. Martinez has a pedestrian 5.63 ERA in 13 starts and 64 innings of work in Triple-A this season.

The Mariners shoot for their fourth straight win over Oakland

The Seattle Mariners’ Wednesday’s clash against the Baltimore Orioles has been excluded from the analysis. The M’s were sitting at 35-41, looking for their seventh victory in nine games overall. Last week, they swept a three-game road set against the Athletics.

Logan Gilbert will toe the slab Thursday and meet the A’s for the first time this season. The talented 25-year-old righty is 8-3 with a shiny 2.44 ERA and 1.09 WHIP in 15 starts (88.2 innings) in 2022. He’s gone 4-1 over his previous six games, allowing only nine earned runs on 33 hits across 36.2 frames of work.

Last Saturday, Gilbert warned a win in a 5-3 road victory over the Los Angeles Angels. He fanned seven through 5.2 innings, surrendering three earned runs on nine hits and a couple of walks. Gilbert carries an 89/25 K/BB ratio into Thursday’s battle against the Athletics.

Trends:

Oakland:

  • 4-11 in the last 15 games overall
  • 2-7 in the last nine road games against Seattle

Seattle:

  • 6-2 in the last eight games overall
  • 16-2 in the last 18 games against Oakland
  • 5-1 in Logan Gilbert’s last six starts

Oakland Athletics vs. Seattle Mariners Pick

I’ve mentioned the Athletics’ terrible run of form at the plate. The Mariners’ offense hasn’t impressed either, but Seattle certainly looks like a better offensive team than Oakland. The M’s have dominated the A’s lately, winning 16 of their previous 18 encounters, so give me Seattle at the moneyline odds.

The Mariners have gone 5-1 in Logan Gilbert’s last six starts. Gilbert is having a terrific season and will be fired up to shut down one of the worst lineups in baseball. On the other side, Adrian Martinez will try to improve after some underwhelming displays in Triple-A, and it’s hard to trust the Athletics’ rookie.

Pick: Take Seattle Mariners at -200

The Total:

I would take the hosts to win as my best Athletics vs. Mariners betting pick. The totals could be a tricky bet because of Adrian Martinez and the Athletics’ bullpen. Oakland’s relievers have accounted for a pedestrian 5.65 ERA and 5.72 FIP in their last 28.2 innings of work.

On the other side, the Mariners’ bullpen has been outstanding in the last ten days and 27.1 frames of work, tallying a 0.99 ERA and 2.04 FIP. I lean toward the under, but it’s hard to predict what will happen in the final three innings when the bullpens take over.

Pick: Go under 7.5 runs at -115
