The MLB betting action goes on with a 16-game Tuesday card, bringing plenty of interesting markets, so we have prepared the best Athletics vs. Red Sox betting pick along with the latest odds update on BetDSI Sportsbook

The A’s and Sawx start a three-game series at Fenway Park in Boston, and the hosts are listed as firm -225 moneyline favorites for Tuesday’s opener. Oakland sits at +185 odds, while the totals are listed at 9.5 runs.

The Athletics have been awful in the last few weeks

The Oakland Athletics suffered a 6-3 defeat at the Cleveland Guardians this past Sunday. It was their 14th loss in the last 16 outings at any location, and the A’s dropped to 21-41 on the season, sporting the worst record in the AL West by far.

Oakland has scored only 33 runs over its last 12 contests, racking up a miserable .199/.262/.345 slash line. On the pitching side of things, the A’s have amassed an awful 5.56 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, and .282 batting average against in that 12-game span.

Jared Koenig will take the mound Tuesday and make his second major-league start. The 28-year-old righty was charged for a loss in a heavy 13-2 defeat at the Atlanta Braves last Wednesday, yielding four earned runs on five hits and two walks.

The Red Sox continue to chase their rivals in the crowded AL East

The Boston Red Sox just finished their ten-game road trip with an 8-2 record. They outlasted the Mariners 2-0 this past Sunday to clinch a three-game set in Seattle and improve to 32-29 on the season. The Red Sox were sitting at the fourth spot in the AL East on Monday, 12.5 games behind the mighty New York Yankees. They trailed Toronto by 3.5 games and Tampa Bay by four.

Boston has scored 50 runs over its last 13 games overall, slashing just .224/.293/.361. The Red Sox’s pitching staff has improved a lot in the last couple of weeks and posted a 2.55 ERA and 1.10 WHIP.

Nick Pivetta will take the hill Tuesday, looking to bounce back from his rough outing at the Los Angeles Angels. The 29-year-old righty fanned 11 across five frames of work but also surrendered four earned runs on six hits and two walks in a losing effort. Pivetta is now 5-5 with a 3.78 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in 12 starts (66.2 innings) this season.

Trends:

Oakland:

  • 2-14 in the last 16 games overall
  • 1-5 in the last six games on the road
  • 1-6 in the last seven games against Boston

Boston:

  • 9-2 in the last 11 games overall
  • 8-2 in the last ten games against the American League
  • 13-5 in the last 18 home games against Oakland

Oakland Athletics vs. Boston Red Sox Pick

The Red Sox beat the Athletics 5-2 on June 5 to sweep a three-game set at Oakland Coliseum. Boston has played in a rich vein of form over the last few weeks, so I’m expecting the Sawx to stay on the right path and beat the runline against the A’s.

Jared Koenig will be in big trouble at Fenway Park. Also, Oakland’s bullpen is a complete disaster in June, tallying a 9.10 ERA, 5.94 FIP, and .384 BABIP.

Pick: Take Boston Red Sox -1.5 at -105

The Total:

The Red Sox’s bullpen has been terrific through 37 innings of work in June, recording a 2.19 ERA, 2.73 FIP, .264 BABIP, and 0.24 HR/9. The hosts could easily shut down the A’s, who own just four hits in 42 at-bats against Nick Pivetta.

Hereof, I don’t feel comfortable with the totals, especially not with a 9.5-run line. Boston could also score a lot of runs off Jared Koenig and his relievers. I lean toward the over, but the hosts to cover remain my best Athletics vs. Red Sox betting pick.

Pick: Go over 9.5 runs at -110
