The NFL action continues with Week 8 games on Sunday, October 30, and this inter-conference duel is among them, so make sure you read the best Dolphins vs. Lions betting pick and odds.

Detroit is hoping to avoid the fifth loss in a row when they host Miami at Ford Field. The Dolphins are -3.5 favorites on BookMaker Sportsbook, while the total is set at 51.5 points. These inter-conference rivals haven’t met since 2018.

Dolphins returned to winning ways with the return of Tua Tagovailoa

The Miami Dolphins (4-3-0, 3-4-0 ATS) snapped a three-game losing skid with a 16-10 home victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Tua Tagovailoa returned from his head injury and immediately led his team to a W, even though it wasn’t anything flashy and impressive. All the points were scored in the first half, and perhaps the Steelers had a chance to win, but their rookie QB Kenny Pickett threw three interceptions.

Tua Tagovailoa completed 21 of 35 passes for 261 yards and one touchdown. Although he has some top receivers to work with, Tagovailoa threw his lone TD pass to running back Raheem Mostert, who also posted a game-high 79 rushing yards on 16 carries. Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill combined for 160 yards on 11 receptions (18 targets). On defense, Andrew Van Ginkel was rock solid with a game-high 11 tackles.

DE Trey Flowers has hit the injured reserve list with a foot injury, and he will miss an extended period. DE Emmanuel Ogbah (back), CB Xavien Howard (groin), QB Skylar Thompson (thumb), and S Clayton Fejedelem (groin) are questionable to feature on Sunday against Detroit.

Lions lost four consecutive games

The Detroit Lions (1-5-0, 3-3-0 ATS) lost four games in a row, and in the last two, they scored just six points. After failing to score in a loss against the New England Patriots, the Lions scored six in a 24-6 defeat to the Dallas Cowboys on the road. Detroit was pretty tied with Dallas when it comes to total yards and first downs, but they committed even five turnovers opposite the Cowboys’ one.

Jared Goff completed 21 of 26 passes for 228 yards and two touchdowns. He also had two lost fumbles, and the Lions couldn’t get a better result in Dallas mainly because of Goff’s mistakes. Kalif Raymond registered a game-high 75 yards on five receptions, while Jamaal Williams had 79 rushing yards on 15 attempts. Defensively, Jeff Okudah displayed a great performance with game-high 15 tackles.

WR DJ Chark Jr. has been entered on the injured reserve list with an ankle injury, and it is unknown when he will return to the lineup. DE Charles Harris (groin), S DeShon Elliott (finger), and G Jonah Jackson (neck) are questionable to play on Sunday against Miami.

Trends:

Miami:

  • 8-3 ATS in the last 11 games following a straight-up win
  • 7-3 ATS in the last ten games after allowing less than 15 points in their previous game

Detroit:

  • 0-9 ATS in the last nine games in Week 8
  • 0-4 ATS in the last four games in October

Miami Dolphins vs. Detroit Lions Pick

Although the Dolphins haven’t impressed in their latest win over Pittsburgh, I expect them to win here without much trouble. Detroit has the worst defense in the NFL that allows 32.3 points per game, while the Lions’ secondary is surrendering almost 250 yards per game to the opposing receivers. Miami has a couple of top wideouts in Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, and I am backing them to slice Detroit’s secondary open in this one. Tua Tagovailoa should be even better in the second game after returning from a head injury, so I am going with the visitors.

Pick: Take the Dolphins at -3.5 (-110)

The Total

Miami is neglecting its run offense and with a very big reason. The Dolphins have excellent receivers and a running back who can serve as a receiver as well, while their quarterback is a strong passer. Miami is averaging 281.6 passing yards per game, which is the third-best pass offense in the league. On the other hand, Detroit is in the top 10 in both pass and run offenses, and I expect to see plenty of points here. Over is 6-2 in the Lions’ last eight games overall, while Over is 19-7 in Detroit’s previous 26 home games.

Pick: Go Over 51.5 points (-110)
