The 2022 MLB season continues Friday, April 22, with the marquee National League West matchup at Petco Park in San Diego, so we bring you the best Dodgers vs. Padres betting pick along with the latest odds update on BetUS Sportsbook.

The Dodgers square off against the Padres for the first time in 2022, and Los Angeles is a -170 road fave to win the opening clash of a three-game series at Petco Park. The Padres are +157 moneyline underdogs, and the totals sit at 8.0 runs.

The Boys in Blue aim for their tenth straight win over the Padres

Last year, the Los Angeles Dodgers won 13 of their 19 encounters with the Padres, including their final nine meetings of the 2021 season. The Dodgers hope they can extend their dominance over San Diego after going 9-3 through their first 12 outings in 2022.

Los Angeles has scored 64 runs so far this season, posting a solid .254/.338/.405 slash line. On the other side of the ball, the Dodgers boast the lowest ERA (2.38) and WHIP (0.96) in the majors while allowing a .194 batting average to their opponents.

Julio Urias will get the starting call Friday, his third of the season. The 25-year-old left-hander is 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA, 5.22 FIP, and 1.43 WHIP across seven innings of work. After a rough opener at Coors Field in Denver, Urias fired five scoreless innings in a 5-2 home victory over the Cincinnati Reds. Julio is 3-1 with a sharp 2.63 ERA in six career starts and five relief appearances against the Padres.

The Padres ride a four-game winning streak

The San Diego Padres just swept a three-game home series against the lowly Cincinnati Reds. They blanked Cincy in the closer last Wednesday, 6-0, extending their winning streak to four games. The Padres improved to 9-5 on the young season despite missing some of their key players, including Fernando Tatis Jr.

San Diego has scored 61 runs over its first 14 showings in 2022. The Padres lead the majors in walks (59) while slashing .230/.330/.369. On the pitching side of things, San Diego carries a 3.15 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, and .200 batting average against.

Nick Martinez will take the hill Friday to face the Dodgers for the first time in his career. The 31-year-old righty is 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA in two starts this term. He’s also recorded a horrible 6.97 FIP and 1.70 WHIP while punching out nine through ten innings of work. Last Saturday, Martinez took a loss in a 5-2 defeat to the Atlanta Braves, yielding four earned runs on seven hits and four walks across five frames.

Trends:

LA Dodgers:

  • 8-1 in the last nine games overall
  • 13-2 in Julio Urias’ last 15 starts

San Diego:

  • 0-9 in the last nine games against the Dodgers
  • 6-14 in the last 20 home games against the Dodgers

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Diego Padres Pick

The Dodgers are listed as firm favorites on the road for a few reasons. Julio Urias is arguably a much better pitcher than Nick Martinez, while the Dodgers’ relief pitching is terrifying. Also, Los Angeles’ lineup is loaded from top to bottom, so I have to take the Dodgers in the opening game of this set.

While the Padres’ bullpen carries a 3.61 ERA and 3.75 FIP, the Dodgers’ relievers boast a shiny 2.44 ERA and 2.47 FIP. San Diego will need a top-notch performance from Nick Martinez, but the Dodgers are destroying the righties, posting a 140 OPS+ as a team.

Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers at -170

The Total:

The current Padres are 12-for-65 with a .130/.197/.275 triple-slash against Julio Urias. If they continue to struggle against the Dodgers’ lefty, this game could easily go under an 8-run line. I’ve mentioned how good the Dodgers’ bullpen has been so far, and the visitors will shut down the Padres should Urias put on a strong performance.

The Dodgers have allowed more than three runs only twice in 12 games this season. On the other side, five of the Padres’ last six games have produced seven or fewer runs in the total.

Pick: Go under 8.0 runs at +105
