The 2022 MLB season continues with 11 games on Thursday’s slate, including the National League showdown from Nationals Park in Washington, D.C., so we bring you the best Rockies vs. Nationals betting pick and odds.

Colorado and Washington already met each other in the first week of May, and the Rockies won a three-game set at Coors Field in Denver, 2-1. This time around, they start a four-game series at Nationals Park, and the hosts are listed as slight -115 moneyline favorites on BetOnline Sportsbook

The Rockies look to get back to winning ways

The Colorado Rockies have struggled mightily over the last few weeks, going 4-12 in their previous 16 outings at any location. They are coming off a 10-5 defeat at the Pirates on Wednesday afternoon, dropping a three-game series at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.

The 20-23 Rockies are now sitting bottom of the NL West, a couple of games behind the No. 4 Arizona Diamondbacks. They are scoring 4.60 runs per game (9th in the MLB) on a .260/.324/.400 triple-slash (.238/.309/.382 league average) while surrendering a whopping 5.26 runs in a return (27th).

German Marquez will toe the slab Thursday in Washington and face the Nats for the second time in 2022. The 27-year-old righty got trounced by the Nationals on May 3, allowing seven earned runs on ten hits and a couple of walks across five frames of work in a 10-2 home loss. Marquez is 1-4 with a terrible 6.14 ERA and 1.59 WHIP in eight starts this season.

The Nationals continue to struggle

The 14-30 Washington Nationals hosted the mighty LA Dodgers on Wednesday, hoping to avoid a sweep in a three-game set. They’ve won only three of their previous 12 games overall and haven’t won the series since May 1.

Washington is tallying 3.91 runs per contest (22nd in the MLB) on a .251/.314/.357 slash line. On the other side of the ball, the Nats are yielding 5.36 runs per game (29th) while posting a 5.15 ERA and 1.48 WHIP.

Patrick Corbin will toe the rubber Thursday, and the 32-year-old lefty is 0-7 with a horrible 6.60 ERA and 1.69 WHIP in nine starts and 43.2 frames of work this term. Corbin was charged for a loss in a 5-2 defeat at the Rockies on May 4, surrendering five runs (three earned) on nine hits across eight innings.

Trends:

Colorado:

  • 7-3 in the last ten games against Washington

Washington:

  • 3-9 in the last 12 games overall
  • 0-9 in Patrick Corbin’s nine starts in 2022

Colorado Rockies vs. Washington Nationals Pick

This game could easily go either way, as both teams have struggled a lot lately. Also, both German Marquez and Patrick Corbin have been a complete disaster thus far, so betting on the totals seems like a way to go in this matchup.

The Rockies are slashing only .226/.287/.329 away from home, but they’ve done a superb job against the lefties so far this season, tallying a .308/.368/.448 triple-slash. Hereof, I lean toward the Rockies, who have gone 7-3 over their previous ten meetings with the Nats.

Pick: Take Colorado Rockies at -105

The Total:

German Marquez has allowed three or more earned runs in seven straight outings. The current Nationals are hitting .292/.326/.458 in 103 at-bats against him. On the other side, the current Rockies are slashing .273/.353/.417 in 145 at-bats against Patrick Corbin, who’s allowed five earned runs in each of his previous two starts.

As I’ve mentioned, Marquez and Corbin have been awful so far, and I’m expecting to see more of the same in this game. Also, the Nats’ bullpen has recorded a 4.56 ERA and 4.48 FIP in the last seven days.

Pick: Go over 8.5 runs at -105
