It’s going to be a busy day/night in the MLB on Sunday, August 7, as we have 15 games on tap, including this divisional tilt, so don’t miss a thing and check out the best Rockies vs. Diamondbacks betting pick and odds.

Colorado and Arizona will play the final of a three-game series at Chase Field, and the Diamondbacks are -150 moneyline favorites on BetOnline Sportsbook. Game 2 is played at the time of writing, and up to that moment, the Rockies led the season series 6-5.

Rockies couldn’t close down the D-Backs in the opener

The Colorado Rockies are not playing well in the second half of the season as they lost 11 of 15 games prior to this series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. They somehow managed to avoid a series sweep by the hands of the Brewers, White Sox, Dodgers, and Padres, but we’ll see whether they can avoid the sweep against Arizona in the desert.

The Rockies had a 5-2 lead through the first six innings in the opening game of the series, but their poor pitching cost them again as the D-Backs scored four in the 7th and 8th to get a 6-5 victory. Randal Grichuk hit his 11th homer of the campaign and second in four games as he finished with three hits. German Márquez allowed two runs with three strikeouts over six innings in a no-decision, while Alex Colome took a loss after allowing two runs in 1.0 inning.

Jose Urena (1-3) is getting his seventh start of the campaign when he faces the D-Backs on Sunday. The 30-year-old righty has a 4.66 ERA, 1.60 WHIP, and a 55/30 K/BB ratio across 81.8 innings of work. Urena will meet Arizona for the first time since 2019.

Diamondbacks came from behind to beat the Rockies

The Arizona Diamondbacks are in a better form than the Rockies in the second half of the season and prior to Game 2 of the series, they are actually above .500 in 13 second-half games. The only downside was the series against the Atlanta Braves, which the D-Backs lost in three games.

Madison Bumgarner had a lot of trouble against the Rockies early on as he allowed even ten hits and let four runs with only two strikeouts and a walk in 5.2 innings. Luckily for him, he avoided a loss thanks to a good offensive display late on. Geraldo Perdomo singled in the bottom 8th as McCarthy and Rivera scored to give Arizona a 6-5 win. Chris Devenski was credited with the first victory of the season, while Ian Kennedy got his 6th save.

Zach Davies (2-4) is starting for the D-Backs on Sunday and is looking for the first win since May 14. The 29-year-old right-hander owns a 4.28 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and a 63/28 K/BB ratio in 82.0 innings. Davies was great in his previous start against Colorado, keeping the Rockies off the scoreboard in 6.1 innings.

Trends:

Colorado:

  • 0-4 in Urena’s last four starts vs. National League West rivals
  • 1-6 in the last seven overall
  • 1-6 in the last seven vs. National League West opponents

Arizona:

  • 4-0 in the last four home games
  • 4-1 in the last 5fivehome games vs. a right-handed starter

Colorado Rockies vs. Arizona Diamondbacks Pick

I don’t trust Urena and I don’t think he’s good enough to pitch in the majors, at least not as a starter. He is the biggest reason I am backing the D-Backs in this one. Davies dominated the Rockies in his last start against them, and although I am not sure he will shut them out this time around, Zach has a solid chance of getting a W. Even if he doesn’t get his first win after nine starts, I am still backing the hosts to prevail.

Pick: Take the Diamondbacks at -150

The Total

I said that I don’t expect Davies to keep the Rockies at bay like he did the last time out. I am backing the visitors to score multiple runs off of him because Zach wasn’t at his best in his previous start after coming back from an injury. Urena, on the other hand, surrendered 14 runs in his last three starts and this one is going to be another tough game for him.

Over is 4-1 in the Rockies’ last five vs. National League West opponents, Over is 4-1 in Colorado’s previous five road games, while Over is 4-0 in the Diamondbacks’ last four games vs. a right-handed starter.

Pick: Go Over 9 runs at -110
