The Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles start a three-game series at Oriole Park at Camden Yards on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, so we bring you the best Sawx vs. O’s betting pick and odds for the opening clash with the first pitch at 7:05 PM ET.

The Red Sox are 12-4 against the O’s in 2021, winning their previous six H2H duels. Boston is a huge fave for Tuesday’s showdown, according to BetDSI Sportsbook, so let’s take a closer look.

The Sawx just got swept by the Yanks

The Boston Red Sox dropped to 88-68 on the season following a 6-3 defeat to the New York Yankees last Sunday. They got swept by the Yanks in a three-game home set, but the Sawx retained the bottom wild card, entering the ultimate week of the 2021 season one game ahead of the Toronto Blue Jays.

Boston is slashing .287/.355/.509 over the last couple of weeks, posting the second-best OPS in the majors and scoring 72 runs through 11 games in that span. The Sawx have struggled a bit on the mound despite a 3.82 ERA, allowing a .252 batting average to their rivals to go with a 1.29 WHIP.

Chris Sale will toe the slab Tuesday, and he’s 5-0 with a sharp 2.57 ERA in seven starts this season. The 32-year-old lefty has done a good job since rejoining the team in August, and the Red Sox have gone 6-1 in his seven appearances.

Sale has already met the O’s twice this term, emerging victorious on both occasions. He’s yielded three earned runs on eight hits across ten innings of work while punching out nine.

The O’s split a four-game set with Texas

The Baltimore Orioles fell to 50-106 on the season following a 7-4 defeat to the Texas Rangers this past Sunday. They split a four-game home series with the Strangers, as the Orioles remained the worst team in the American League.

Over the last two weeks of action, the O’s have gone 4-9, scoring just 40 runs in the process while tallying a poor .224/.296/.357 batting line. On the pitching side of things, they’ve compiled a 4.71 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, and a .272 batting average against.

Bruce Zimmermann will take the mound Tuesday and get the Red Sox for the third time this season. Back in April, he’s gone 1-0 through a couple of starts against Boston, yielding six earned runs on 11 hits and a couple of walks across 12 innings of work.

The 26-year-old lefty has been sidelined since June 13 due to a biceps injury. He’s 4-4 with a 4.83 ERA and 1.47 WHIP in 11 starts and one relief appearance in 2021 (59.2 innings pitched).

Trends:

Boston:

  • 12-1 in the last 13 games against Baltimore
  • 6-0 ATS in the last six tilts against Baltimore
  • 7-3 in the last ten games overall

Baltimore:

  • 4-12 in the last 16 games overall
  • 1-6 in the last seven home games against Boston

Boston Red Sox vs. Baltimore Orioles Pick

The Red Sox have won six straight games over the Orioles, covering a 1.5-run spread on all six occasions. I’m sticking with this betting trend, taking the Sawx to cover as my best betting pick for this AL East showdown.

Chris Sale is 10-2 with a 2.58 ERA in 16 career starts and six relief appearances against Baltimore. He’s registered a shiny 1.96 ERA through 64.1 innings of work at Camden Yards throughout his career. Sale should extend his dominance over the O’s, while the Red Sox’s offense will look to stay hot at the plate.

Pick: Take Boston Red Sox -1.5

The Total:

I would stick with the visitors to cover, as the totals look like a tricky wager. The Red Sox could easily score a bunch of runs against the Orioles’ hapless pitching staff, but the hosts will have a mountain to climb against Chris Sale.

Although the under has hit in five of the last eight meetings between Boston and Baltimore, I lean the over here. The Orioles bullpen has recorded a 6.61 ERA over the past two weeks, while the Red Sox ‘ pen had registered a 3.00 ERA and 4.32 FIP in that span.

Pick: Go over
