A National League battle continues Saturday night when the Atlanta Braves (33-24, 18-10 away) visit the Arizona Diamondbacks (35-23, 20-12 home). Both teams are first in their divisions, but one of the best stories of the first two months is this Arizona team. Below is my MLB pick for the Atlanta Braves vs Arizona Diamondbacks.
The Pick: Atlanta Braves -197
This game will be played at Chase Field at 10:10 p.m. on Saturday, June 3, 2023.
✅ Atlanta has been good against Arizona, winning four of their last five meetings.
✅ Spencer Strider is one of the best pitchers in baseball and the Braves have nine of his 11 starts in 2023.
✅ Arizona has lost six of Ryne Nelson’s 11 starts, but they have won his last four games started.
Atlanta had a great May, but the end of the month is not something that will go on their video yearbook. The Braves headed out West to visit the Oakland Athletics and, somehow, lost two of three to one of the worst teams ever seen. Atlanta headed down to Phoenix for the series opener of this one and were beaten 3-2 Friday night. Leading the NL East by 3.5 games, the Braves will hope to avoid another series loss.
Spencer Strider is set to make his 12th start of the season and he will be in the Cy Young discussion all season long. Strider is 5-2 with a 2.97 ERA and 0.99 WHIP in 63.2 innings pitched.
Matt Olson has been mashing this season as he leads the Braves with 17 home runs and 42 RBIs. Ronald Acuna Jr. is batting a team high .323.
The Arizona Diamondbacks Are Hot
Arizona ended May the best way they could, by winning their final four games. The Diamondbacks ended their series against Boston with a win and followed that up with a four-game sweep of the Colorado Rockies. After beating the Braves Friday night, Arizona is now tied a the top of the NL West with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Ryne Nelson will take the mound for his 12th start of the season and it has not been a good time for him so far in 2023. Nelson has posted a 5.37 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in 57.0 innings pitched.
Christian Walker is a stud and he’s leading Arizona with 12 home runs and 36 RBIs this season. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. is batting a team high .310.
