There is just one game left to wrap up Week 8 of the NFL season, and it has already been a year unlike any other. It seems as if there are some big upsets each week, and some of the top teams just can’t seem to break away from the pack.

The same can be said in the race to win the MVP Award as no player has been able to take charge and become the clear favorite. It looked as if Patrick Mahomes was going to be that guy, but a bad Week 8 game has let others back into the race.

This award is definitely going to be won by a quarterback, but there are three players that appear to be in a tight battle to win it.

A Look at the Favorites

The betting odds to win the NFL MVP Award tend to change pretty frequently, and one bad week will cause the odds to flip. Patrick Mahomes was the favorite heading into Week 8, but he is no longer in that spot after a bad loss to the Denver Broncos.

Tua Tagovailoa is now the favorite to win the NFL MVP Award at +300 (at BetDSI), and he is a player that just continues to put up some huge numbers. Tagovailoa has not been able to stay healthy throughout his career, but he has been able to stay on the field this season for the Dolphins.

Mahomes is still in the mix at +350, but he also has another former Alabama quarterback on his heels as well. Jalen Hurts has NFL MVP odds set at +375, and he probably would have won the award last season if he didn’t get injured.

While these three are likely going to remain contenders throughout the year, you are also going to want to keep your eye on the odds. They will be fluctuating in a big way with every game that is played, and you might see some new players emerge in the list of favorites as time goes on.

Some Contenders Making a Run

Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen are two other players that have been in the MVP mix in recent years, but they were sort of overlooked this season. That was likely a mistake from the oddsmakers as they just continue to play well enough to be in the conversation.

Jackson is getting very close to the group of favorites as he now has betting odds set at +700 to win the MVP Award. Allen has been able to shake off a slow start to get to +1200, and his odds will continue to get better if his team wins games.

Those are the five quarterbacks to really watch in this race, and time is running out for anyone else to join that group.

Mahomes Still the Play

It has been a great start to the season for Hurts and Tagovailoa this season, but there are still some question marks surrounding them as well. There is a reason that Patrick Mahomes was the favorite heading into Week 8, and he can reclaim that top spot as the season goes along.

Team success is going to matter in this race as well, and the Chiefs are going to lock up the top spot in the AFC West. Mahomes will also get some credit from the voters for getting this done with a brand new cast of receivers, and he will put up some massive numbers.

If you are going to bet on the NFL MVP award then you will want to take Patrick Mahomes at +350 over the read of the players in the field. You can bet on Mahomes over at BetDSI right now!
