The MLB betting action continues Tuesday, May 17, with the AL West showdown at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, so we bring you the best Angels vs. Rangers betting pick along with the latest odds update on BetOnline Sportsbook

The Angels and Rangers lock horns in the middle contest of a three-game series, and Los Angeles opens as a -125 moneyline favorite. Texas is a +115 home dog with a total of 8.5 runs.

The Halos continue to impress

Monday night’s opener from Globe Life Field has been excluded from the analysis, and the Los Angeles Angels were searching for their third consecutive victory. The Halos beat Oakland 4-1 this past Sunday to clinch a four-game road series against the Athletics and improve to 24-13 on the season.

Los Angeles has won nine of its previous 12 contests. Over their previous six showings, the Angels have clubbed nine home runs while scoring 32 runs on a solid .257/.307/.444 slash line. Shohei Ohtani has slugged four home runs through his previous seven appearances, and Taylor Ward has a couple of dingers over his previous four outings.

Reid Detmers will take the hill Tuesday in Arlington, and the 22-year-old lefty is 2-1 with a 3.77 ERA, 4.04 FIP, and 0.84 WHIP in six starts (31 frames) in 2022. Last Tuesday, Detmers threw a no-hitter in a 12-0 thrashing of the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Rangers’ iffy form goes on

The Texas Rangers defeated the Boston Red Sox 7-1 last Sunday, avoiding a sweep in a three-game home series. It was their fourth victory in the last nine outings, and the Rangers have failed to win two straight contests during that stretch.

Texas improved to 14-19 on the season, still trailing the Angels and Astros by huge eight games. Over their last six outings, the Rangers have scored 22 runs on an underwhelming .205/.263/.389 batting line. Their pitching staff has recorded a 4.50 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and .235 batting average against in that stretch.

Taylor Hearn will toe the rubber Tuesday, aiming for his second straight win. The 27-year-old left-hander tossed five scoreless innings in a 3-1 victory to Kansas City last Thursday, yielding just one hit and three free passes. Hearn is now 2-2 with a pedestrian 5.26 ERA and 1.64 WHIP in six starts (25.2 frames) this season.

Trends:

LA Angels:

  • 9-3 in the last 12 games overall
  • 5-1 in the last six games on the road

Texas:

  • 6-12 in the last 18 games against the Angels

Los Angeles Angels vs. Texas Rangers Pick

The Rangers have been a hit-or-miss lately, while the Angels, as I’ve mentioned, have dropped only three of their previous 12 contests. Los Angeles won a four-game set at Globe Life Field in April, so I’m backing the Halos to extend their dominance over the Rangers.

It’s hard to trust Reid Detmers despite his no-hitter against Tampa Bay. A similar story is with Taylor Hears, so I’m expecting the Angels’ offense to make the difference.

Pick: Take Los Angeles Angels at -125

The Total:

The current Halos are batting .308/.343/.358 in 41 at-bats against Taylor Hearn. On the other side, it’s a small sample size, but the current Rangers own a 1.113 OPS in 17 at-bats against Reid Detmers. Hereof, I’m backing the over on the totals.

In the last seven days, the Angels’ relievers have registered a 3.26 ERA, while the Rangers’ bullpen has recorded a 3.94 ERA. The over is 5-0-1 in the previous six encounters between the Angels and Rangers.

Pick: Go over 8.5 runs at -105
