The first legs of the UEFA Europa League Quarter-Finals are set for this Thursday, April 5th, 2018, so we’ll take a closer look at the derby between Arsenal and CSKA Moscow set at Emirates Stadium in London. The Gunners are big favorites to win the Europa League at +300 as it’s their only chance to play in the Champions League next season, but we are excited to see if the Horses can make another upset after eliminating Lyon in the previous round.

ARSENAL

The Gunners have won four games in a row in all competitions, including a double victory over AC Milan in the previous round of the UEFA Europa League, and it looks like their team play is improving recently, as they’ve managed to keep the clean sheet in three out of these four encounters. At home, they’ve recorded three consecutive wins, scoring three goals on each occasion, so the manager Arsene Wenger is certainly satisfied with his team’s attacking flow.

Arsenal played ten games in the Europa League this season, recording seven victories, one draw, and two defeats with a goal difference of 23:7 which is exactly three goals per contest on average, while six out of these ten tilts had at least three goals in the total. They’ve suffered the only defeat at home against Ostersund (2-1), but in the previous round, they’ve convincingly beaten AC Milan 3-1 at Emirates Stadium.

The striker Alexandre Lacazette is the team’s top scorer with ten goals in 30 appearances this season, while the forward Danny Welbeck and the midfielder Aaron Ramsey both scored seven goals each. Ramsey was an exceptional playmaker this season with ten dishes on his account, one less than the team’s leading assist-maker Mesut Ozil. The striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is ineligible for the Europa League matches, and the goalkeeper Petr Cech is still doubtful for the first leg against CSKA Moscow due to a groin injury, while all other important first team players are ready to go.

CSKA MOSCOW

The Horses have won three games in a row, including a shocking 3-2 victory over Lyon on the road in the previous round of the UEFA Europa League that scheduled them a clash against Arsenal in the Quarter-Finals. The Russian vice-champions played seven games in 2018, recording five wins, one stalemate, and one defeat with a goal difference of 10:4, which is exactly two goals per contest on average, while three out of these seven encounters had at least three goals in the total.

After finishing at the third spot of the UEFA Champions League Group A table, the Horses continued their journey in the UEFA Europa League Round of 32, and in ten European games this season they recorded five wins, one draw, and four losses with a 12:13 goal difference, while a half of these ten tilts had at least three goals in the total. In the previous round of the Europa League, the Horses were huge underdogs against Lyon, especially after a 1-0 defeat in the first leg at home, but their performance was exceptional in the second leg, winning the game at Lyon, 3-2.

The Brazilian forward Vitinho is CSKA Moscow’s top scorer this season with ten goals in 37 appearances, while the midfielder Pontus Wernbloom is behind him with eight goals in 34 games thus far. The Horses’ best player is arguably the 27-year old midfielder Alan Dzagoev who’s scored seven goals in 32 apps this season, and he’s the team’s best assist-maker with eight dishes on his account. The manager Viktor Goncharenko will have some problems to field his best eleven against Arsenal, as the defenders Viktor Vasin and Mario Fernandes are both out due to injuries, while the full-back Kirill Nababkin will have to serve his yellow card suspension.

Arsenal vs. CSKA Moscow – Betting Trends and Match Prediction

  • Arsenal won four games in a row with an 11:1 goal difference
  • Four out of the last five Arsenal’s games had at least three goals in the total
  • The previous ten Arsenal’s home games had at least three goals in the total
  • CSKA Moscow won three games in a row with an 8:3 goal difference, all three on the road
  • Four out of the last seven CSKA Moscow’s games had less than three goals in the total

Despite the hosts are huge favorites to win the first leg, don’t underestimate the visitors as they are a well-organized team who can make some serious damage on a counter. However, CSKA Moscow’s defense is a quite slow one with some old players at the centre-backs, so they could have issues with Arsenal’s quick and potent frontline.

I will go with the Gunners here, while we could easily see a couple of goals more, particularly if the Horses find the net. You can check out all other lines and markets for this clash, and for the remaining three matchups, as BetDSI Sportsbook will have you covered on all Europa League games.

MY PICK: Arsenal AH -1.5 (+105)
