Pablo Machín’s Sevilla, who began their LL campaign in style with a 4-1 dismantling of Rayo Vallecano in Madrid, are coming off a last-gasp 1-0 win away at Sigma Olomouc in the first leg of their Europa League qualifying play-off tie on Thursday evening. They will be aiming to extend their winning streak at home to six games in all competitions.
Los Rojiblancos were big favorites to beat the Czech side Sigma but they had problems to score a winning goal as the hosts proved to be a tough nut to crack. Still, Pablo Sarabia finally broke the deadlock in the 84th minute to give Sevilla an important win prior to the returning leg at the Sánchez Pizjuán.
Andre Silva, who joined on a season-long loan from Milan, scored a hat-trick on his La Liga debut. Becoming the only player to do so since Romario for Barcelona in 1993/94. The 22-year-old striker recorded only two league goals for Milan in 24 appearances in 2017/18 and now he already has three goals to his name in just one game. It appears that Silva is Machin’s first-choice striker ahead of Wissam Ben Yedder, so backing him to score anytime at +105 is a good bet to make.
- Sevilla won the previous five games (all competitions) at home
- Sevilla hasn’t failed to score in any of their last 12 competitive matches
- Sevilla conceded 22 goals at home in La Liga last term, 1.15 goals per contest
The Yellow Submarine are looking for their first points after slipping to a 2-1 home defeat to Real Sociedad on an opening day. The last term, they managed a decent 25 points on the road (W7, D4, L8), notably beating Real Madrid and Valencia, so Sevilla will have a lot of work to do to bring down the visitors.
Villarreal was a better side in the opener with Sociedad and Gerard Moreno gave them a lead in the 16th minute, but Willian Jose and Juanmi secured three points for the visitors, so Javier Calleja’s men will be looking for redemption against Sevilla.
Gerard Moreno returned to El Madrigal after spooning the previous three years at Espanyol, scoring 36 LaLiga goals in that span, and he already scored in the opening game of the campaign. He’s +162 to score on Sunday.
- Villarreal scored 22 La Liga goals away from home last year
- Villarreal scored two or more goals in five out of the last eight La Liga games
Sevilla won six out of the previous ten H2H encounters, while Villarreal recorded only one victory, the previous one in October 2015. The previous two league duels between the sides at the Pizjuán have finished as a draw (0-0, 2-2). Villarreal hasn’t tasted victory in any of their last five meetings with Sevilla (D3, L2) – their worst run since a six-game winless run against them between 2013 and 2015. There have been over 2.5 goals in seven of the last ten meetings between the pair, and I expect another high-scoring tilt here. Just to be sure, I will go with BTTS rather than over 2.5, although both could occur.
MY PICK: Both teams to score YES (-143)
ADDITIONAL PICK: BTTS and Over 2.5 goals (+105)
