The 9th event of the 2016 WSL season is the Quiksilver Pro France which takes place from October 4th through October 15th in Landes, France. John John Florence and Gabriel Medina are listed as co-favorites to win this event at odds of 5-1. Florence leads the WSL standings with Medina in second place so this is a key event for Medina as he looks to pick up ground on Florence. Filipe Toledo and Jordy Smith are listed at odds of 7-1 with Kelly Slater at odds of 8-1. All of the other surfers are listed with double-digit odds. Let’s look at the event and surfing picks.

Based on current form and based on past history it should be either Florence or Medina who wins this event in France. Medina won this event last year while Florence won it two years ago. Both surfers struggled in their last event at Trestles as neither survived beyond round three. Florence had been on a pretty good run before Trestles with a win in Rio, an appearance in the quarterfinals in Fiji and finals runs in South Africa and Tahiti.

Trestles winner Jordy Smith is listed at 7-1 and considering his momentum he could be someone to look at in this event. Filipe Toledo is also listed at odds of 7-1 while Kelly Slater, who won this event four years ago, is at 8-1. Julian Wilson and Joel Parkinson are also worth considering at double-digit odds.
