The younger Williams sister will look to avoid the same sort of defeat that her older sister, Venus suffered just two days ago here at Wimbledon. Serena is the defending champion of this tournament and has won it three times, including back to back triumphs in 2002 and 2003. If she were to win this match, Williams would be playing in her sixth Grand Slam final out of the L/9 on the WTA Tour. The #1 ranked woman in the world has already cashed in for well over $2M this season alone in singles play and over $31M for her career. Another big payday will be in store one way or the other for the first woman of American tennis. In order to reach this point, Williams has disposed of her five opponents without dropping a set. Recent encounters will China's Na Li and Russian Maria Sharapova were significantly more difficult matches than Williams saw in her first three, as she only managed to go +3 in breaks in those two matches combined. Still, this is clearly the odds on favorite to win this tournament at this juncture.

Kvitova knows that this absolutely has to be the moment of her life on Thursday against Williams. She is only just barely 20 years old and only has one championship under her belt in her professional career. The Czech had never won a match here at the All England Club in two attempts before this year, and she had never made it beyond the fourth round of any major tournament prior to this. Yet here she sits, staring potential history in the face, just two steps away from winning arguably the most illustrious title in tennis. The road to the semifinal has been quite the interesting one in a hectic women's bracket for Kvitova. After winning in straight sets in her opening match, she pulled three straight upsets, beating Jie Zhang, Victoria Azarenka, and Caroline Wozniacki, each more impressively than the last. The 6-2, 6-0 win over the #3 ranked player in the world was arguably the most notable effort by any player in this tournament on either the men's or ladies' side of the draw. Kvitova topped Kaia Kanepi 4-6, 7-6 (10-8), 8-6 in the quarterfinals just two days ago.

Why not? The ladies' side of the Wimbledon draw has been incredibly unpredictable, and we think that this upset is at least fathomable. More often than not, Williams is waltzing into the final in straight sets. However, we give Kvitova more than a one in ten chance of proving victorious.
