NFL Betting — Giants Can’t ‘Bear’ Another Offensive Outing Like the Last

The Chicago Bears feel good about coming back when things looked darkest last week, and now they move forward with a little more confidence. The New York Giants failed to put a “W” on the board for their new coach in his debut. Now these teams, mainstays of the NFL virtually from the beginning, tangle at Solider Field in Chicago on Sunday afternoon at 1 PM ET. BetAnySports customers can watch the action on FOX as it is televised on a regional basis and place wagers while the game is in progress, utilizing what is available to them through Sports Betting Prime.

Chicago got three fourth-quarter touchdowns in a 27-23 victory over Detroit which overcame a very choppy offensive effort for three quarters. The Giants, in one of the two Monday night games, lost 26-16 to Pittsburgh. It was a game where the defense didn’t play badly, but the offense didn’t have “rhythm.” Saquon Barkley had just six yards on 15 carries and Daniel Jones threw two interceptions.

The Bears had produced a total of six points before their fourth-quarter eruption last week. And maybe, just maybe it’s appropriate to take into consideration that Mitchell Trubisky seems to always put up better numbers against the Lions than he does other teams. And Detroit lost a couple of cornerbacks during the game.

Not that it is necessarily the kind of barometer we want to use against the Giants, because Patrick Graham’s defensive backfield doesn’t have all that much experience anyway. And they were beaten repeatedly when Pittsburgh ran “rub routes” or “picks,” so you know that is something Chicago is going to make them defend.

In the NFL betting odds posted on this game by the folks at BetAnySports, the Bears are the favorites at home:

Chicago Bears -5.5
New York Giants +5.5

Over 42 points -110
Under 42 points -110

When we think of the idea of Khalil Mack charging into the New York backfield at Daniel Jones, we immediately start thinking of concepts like “strip sack.” You have to, because Jones fumbles the ball – 18 times last year, in fact. And while you can’t claim the Giants excel in any area of their defense, the Bears have a very solid unit which has now had the benefit of working for a full year under coordinator Chuck Pagano, after Vic Fangio bolted for the head coaching job in Denver. Oh, not to mention the game-changer in Mack.

We don’t want to get TOO overly enthusiastic with this Chicago offense. Remember that Trubisky could be combustible, and that the Giants have the best running back on the field (Barkley) and a better set of receivers – theoretically anyway.

Barkley’s rushing figures are not so much a reflection on him as they are on the offensive line, which often let him get hit as soon as he touched the ball. That is something the Bears are going to do all they can to exploit. And head coach Joe Judge says that he does not want Jones to be timid, but more aggressive, which means you’re going to get some very good days, but also a lot of mistakes.

The offensive line issues really bother us about the Giants, because they didn’t just pop up all of a sudden. This was expected to be a weak spot.

The Bears’ defense controls things here, and while we’re not necessarily looking at the total, we feel that Pagano’s unit can exploit what ails the Boys in Blue. Lay it.
