NCAAB – Trends of the Day 02/01/2018

It’s just one more month of play before the start of the madness as February introduces itself with a total number of 63 matchups on the schedule today. Still, there aren’t many matchups in which are top-25 ranked teams involved with Northeast, CAA, Horizon and C-USA showdowns on the menu, but that doesn’t make our job of identifying the right picks any tougher, on the contrary, the most certain picks are often hidden in the matchups that we don’t find too interesting to watch. There are a total of eight games covered in the text below, but if you want to check out every single matchup, you can do it here.

Here are a couple of most interesting duels today: Creighton (17-5) at Villanova (20-1), Wichita St. (17-4) at Temple (11-10), Towson (15-8) at Delaware (11-12), Louisiana Tech (13-9) at Florida Atlantic (10-11), Southern Methodist (15-7) at Tulsa (11-10), Northwestern (13-10) at Wisconsin (10-13), San Diego (15-7) at Gonzaga (19-4) and Arizona State (16-5) at Washington (15-6).

  • The Sun Devils are 8-1-1 in their last 10 games following an ATS win.

The Arizona State Sun Devils will take on the Washington Huskies and they should have an edge in ATS here as the line favors them at 3.5. The Huskies on the other side are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 home games.

  • The Toreros are 18-7-1 in their last 26 road games.

The time of favoring the Gonzaga Bulldogs in their ATS matchups is easily coming to the end for two reasons. The Bulldogs are not as terrifying as they use to be, and the line is often set too high, especially when they play at home. That’s why San Diego has an ATS edge here because 17.5 points in difference are too much against solid Toreros.

  • The Wildcats are 9-3 in their last 12 games following a straight up loss.

By our opinion, the Northwestern Wildcats are a bit stronger squad than the Badgers at the moment and the line that favors Wisconsin at 3.0 doesn’t make much sense. The Badgers are also 5-11-2 ATS in their last 18 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record.

  • The Blue Hens are 0-7-1 in their last eight games vs. a team with a winning % above .600.

The Delaware Blue Hens are not very successful ATS when playing against the teams with a strong positive straight up record and they shouldn’t go very well against the Towson Tigers who are 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 games vs. a team with a losing straight up record.

  • Over is 9-4 in Golden Hurricane last seven games vs. a team with a winning % above .600.

Today’s first high-scoring potential comes in the game between SMU and Tulsa that will take place at Reynolds Center. Tulsa is also 5-1 in Over in last six duels vs. a team with a winning straight up record while the Mustangs stand at 8-3-1 in Over in last 12 games following an ATS win.

  • Under is 9-1-1 in Owls last 11 home games vs. a team with a losing road record.

The matchup between Louisiana Tech Bulldogs and FAU Owls has a strong low-scoring potential and that’s where we’ll go here. The Owls are also 8-2 in Under in last 10 C-USA showdowns while the Bulldogs stand at 5-0-1 in Under in last six road games.

  • Under is 6-0 in Shockers last six road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600.

Another strong low-scoring tendency comes in the matchup between Wichita St. Shockers and Temple Owls. The Owls are 7-2 in Under in last nine overall while the Shockers stand at 6-1 in Under in last seven road games. Go Under!

  • Under is 7-2 in Bluejays last nine vs. Big East.

The Creighton Bluejays like to go Under inside the conference and their next opponent is No. 1 team in the country, Villanova Wildcats that are also 4-0-1 in Wildcats last five vs. a team with a winning straight up record. Let’s not forget that last four meetings between these two foes in Villanova went Under in totals.
