Betting on baseball is not easy and it can be overwhelming. The day-to-day grind for six months during a money line sport is often relentless, but there is money to be made if you know what to look for and how to get an advantage over the sportsbooks. That’s what The Bettor’s Box with host Adam Burke is designed to do. The show goes in-depth on observations from the previous series and things to apply the future series. With sabermetric statistics, daily fantasy tips, and picks, this show has a little bit of everything for the baseball handicapper.
The Bettor’s Box is recorded every Monday and Thursday and includes a look at the games that will be played between recordings so that listeners can use the concepts and insight throughout the days between shows. Listeners of the show can also hit Adam up on Twitter at his handle, @SkatingTripods, to talk baseball betting, topics for the show, or any other sport at BangTheBook. He’s always willing to discuss baseball, as well as the other spots.
As he always does, Adam took a look back in order to take a look forward during his Beyond the Box Score segment. Three series stood out to Adam, including two that he talked about on last Thursday’s show. The rain-shortened series between the Cincinnati Reds and Chicago Cubs wound up being a brief two-game sweep by the Cubs, but Adam cautioned listeners to be very careful with the Cubs. Why? Take a listen and find out.
Two divisional series were also under the microscope with thoughts on the Miami Marlins sweep of the Washington Nationals and the Los Angeles Dodgers series win over the San Diego Padres. These were two series that Adam previewed last week, so what was so interesting about what happened this weekend?
After discussing some line moves on past games and some for Monday night’s slate of games, Adam gave out his pick for Monday night on a juicy underdog in a divisional rivalry. The breakdown of this game included a walkthrough of how to approach every pitching matchup.
On every show, a discussion of sabermetrics takes the analysis to another level and this is where listeners can get an edge over the sportsbooks. Sabermetrics are scary to some people, but Adam is able to talk about them in a way that everybody can understand. On this show, he discussed plate discipline statistics and why they are important to handicapping. Also, these stats can have a direct impact on the players you should pick for your daily fantasy MLB lineups.
Finally, there are some interesting series coming up this week that bettors should pay attention to. Those three series were the Tampa Bay Rays against New York Yankees, the Houston Astros against the San Diego Padres, and the Kansas City Royals against the Cleveland Indians. What is Adam looking for and how can his analysis help you bet on these three series throughout the week?
