Back for his second stint at the club, coach Alain Casanova has made an instant impact. Delighted with the club’s start, he stated that they still have work to do and that the players have to be aware not to become over-confident. Part of that work will be to get the team firing – they only scored 38 goals last season.
Toulouse is currently in the third position with nine points in four games as they connected for three wins after the opening defeat to Marseille. Les Violets secured three points on the road as they beat Guingamp 2-1 thanks to early goals from Max Gradel and Ibrahim Sangare who scored in the opening 12 minutes. The hosts answered with a goal in the 45th minute but the score didn’t change after the interval and the visitors booked a 2-1 win.
- Seven of Toulouse’s last eight L1 regular fixtures have all produced over 2.5 goals
- Toulouse’s first four matches have seen a total of 15 yellow cards (3.75 on average) and one red
In an unfamiliar position, Monaco stands to lose their third Ligue 1 match in a row for the first time since their promotion in 2013. They’ve lost two in a row on four occasions in that time-span, recovering with a win on three occasions.
Les Monégasques are in the 13th position with just four points and the latest 3-2 home defeat to Marseille was particularly painful as the visitors scored a winner in injury time. Jardim’s men were 1-0 down at halftime but responded magnificently in the opening eight minutes of the second half through Youri Tielemans and Radamel Falcao. However, Marseille bounced back with goals from Florian Thauvin and the former Monaco forward Valere Germain who sealed the deal in the 91st minute.
- Ten of Monaco’s last eleven away matches produced over 2.5 goals
- Monaco averaged a second-best 1.83 goals per game on the road last season
- Monaco is currently on a run of eleven consecutive L1 away games that have seen them score at least one goal
Monaco won six out of the previous 11 H2H encounters while Toulouse was better on two occasions. Monaco is without a win in the last three visits to the Stadium Municipal but they won twice in the last five in opposite to Toulouse’s one victory. The visitors are desperate to improve their record but will have a hard job to do against the in-form hosts. However, Monaco has a better team and it’s only a matter of time when they’ll start playing at the higher level and I believe that moment has come.
MY PICK: Monaco to win (+140)
ADDITIONAL PICK: Six out of the previous seven H2H duels produced over 2.5 goals, while that also occurred in the last two games of these respective teams in the league. Monaco’s defense is rather leaky at the moment but they have excellent forwards who can outscore any opponent, so I expect to see at least three goals here.
MY PICK: Over 2.5 (-111)
