Boston Red Sox (18-20) vs. New York Yankees (20-16) MLB Betting Lines
Moneyline: Yankees (-126) Red Sox (+116)
Starting Pitchers: Red Sox (Beckett) vs. Yankees (Sabathia)
It was assumed before the season that the Red Sox and Yankees would run away from the rest of the American League East, but that hasn’t happened so far this year. It is the Tampa Bay Rays in first place in the division as the Red Sox and Yankees both underperform. The Yankees started the season well, but after last night’s loss to the Red Sox they have now lost seven of their last ten games. It will be a great pitching matchup of Beckett vs. Sabathia in this Saturday night showdown in the Bronx.
Boston got a clutch home run from Kevin Youkilis last night and they held on late to beat the Yankees 5-4. Beckett had a down season in 2010, but he has started out 2011 in terrific form. Beckett blanked the Yankees over eight innings earlier this year. Adrian Gonzalez bashed another home run last night, and he has been really hot over the last couple weeks. Gonzalez is easy the team leader in runs batted in with 31 already this year. Carl Crawford is slowly starting to swing the bat a little better, but the Red Sox need him to produce at a much higher level.
The Yankees have been crushing home runs out of the park constantly this year, but it seems if they don’t hit a home run they can’t score. This is a team that should be piling up runs in every way possible, but they are struggling offensively right now. Curtis Granderson is having a very good year, and he actually leads the majors in home runs right now. Nick Swisher and Jorge Posada have been in a season long slump. The Yankees need a little better production from the bottom of the order. C.C. Sabathia has been consistently good in 2011. He has allowed only two home runs in 53 innings pitched this year.
Beckett hasn’t always been great against the Yankees, and I think the Yankees need this one pretty badly to stop their recent slide. I look for Sabathia to pitch well. I like the Yankees on Saturday night.
