St. Louis Cardinals (30-21) vs. Colorado Rockies (24-25) MLB Betting Lines
Moneyline: Rockies (-145) Cardinals (+135)
Starting Pitchers: Cardinals (Westbrook) vs. Rockies (Jimenez)
These two teams have gone in two completely different directions since the first couple weeks of the season. The Rockies were the hottest team in the National League in early April, but they now sit one game below .500. The Cardinals were terrible offensively in the first week, but they now lead the majors with a team batting average of .281. Can the Rockies get back on track or will the Cardinals keep their recent hot streak going?
Jake Westbrook started out the year with some very bad performances, but he has turned in a quality start in five of his last six starts overall. The Cardinals took two out of three against both Kansas City and San Diego, and now they look to finish this road trip with another series victory. Lance Berkman and Matt Holliday are hitting .350 and .349 respectively right now. These two have combined for 67 runs batted in. Albert Pujols is having a poor season by his standards, but you have to expect him to turn it on at some point. St. Louis is starting to get some clutch hits from guys like Jon Jay and Daniel DeScalso, which is a huge plus for this team.
Ubaldo Jimenez was absolutely dominant last year, but he has struggled this season. Ubaldo has shown signs of turning it around in his last couple starts. Facing an offense like St. Louis will be a really good test of where Jimenez is in his attempt to return to his previous form. The Rockies are hitting just .241 as a team this year. Carlos Gonzalez nearly won the NL MVP award last year, but he is hitting just .251 this season. Troy Tulowitzki started the season red hot, but he is in a huge slump over the last month or so and his average is down to .245. Todd Helton has had a great bounce back year, and if he can keep hitting I think this team will eventually start scoring more runs once again.
Jimenez hasn’t looked like himself, and the Cardinals have a terrific offense. The ability to get St. Louis at +135 here is too much to overlook. I like the Cardinals as the underdog in this one.
