San Francisco Giants (29-25) vs. St. Louis Cardinals (33-23) MLB Betting Lines

Moneyline: Giants (-115) Cardinals (+105)

Over/Under: 7

Starting Pitchers: Giants (Lincecum) vs. Cardinals (Westbrook)

The San Francisco Giants lost Buster Posey last week, and that definitely leaves a big hole in the middle of their lineup. The team is built around pitching and defense, but they must get a little bit better production offensively if they are going to stay near the top of the National League West. The St. Louis Cardinals lead the National League Central because of their potent offense. This Cardinals team leads the majors in batting average. The series is tied at one, but who can capture this third game?

Tim Lincecum will be on the hill for the Giants in this one. Lincecum has been his dominating self once again this year. He has an amazing ERA of just 2.22 thus far in 2011. Interestingly, Lincecum hasn’t walked a single batter in his last two starts. The Giants don’t have a single batter with an average higher than .292, which just goes to show how much improvement they need from their offense. Cody Ross and Pat Burrell were big pickups last year to help the team in the stretch run, but they are hitting .243 and .231 so far this year. Veterans Aubrey Huff and Miguel Tejada are hitting a miserable .218 and .217 respectively.

Jake Westbrook started the year out miserably, but he has turned things around very nicely over the last few weeks. He has allowed three earned runs or less in six of his last seven starts. Albert Pujols hasn’t been hitting the ball like we are used to seeing, but Lance Berkman and Matt Holliday have more than made it up for it thus far this season. Berkman is hitting .338 with 11 homers and 36 runs batted in. Holliday is hitting .342 with six home runs and 31 runs batted in. While the other guys don’t get talked about much, guys like Jon Jay and Allen Craig have been making a huge impact offensively. Craig got last night’s rally started and is hitting .337. Jay has at least two hits in six of his last eight starts. This is a Cardinals team that we are liable to hear a lot from this year!

Tim Lincecum is on his game right now and the Giants offense can’t score many on anyone at this point. I think the under is a solid value in this one.
