It's getaway day on the diamond on Wednesday, and a pair of AL Central teams square off in MLB betting action at Progressive Field at 12:05 ET, as the Minnesota Twins take on the Cleveland Indians.
More losses for the Twins... In fairness, this is a team that has only played 21 home games in total and already has 23 losses on the road. Minnesota is playing its 40th road game of the season already, so there might be some hope for a comeback on the campaign... but things are just not right at this point in the Great Lakes area. Now, Carl Pavano is going to be taking the mound on Wednesday afternoon. Pavano is coming off of two of his best starts of the season against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and the Kansas City Royals. He has now pitched 17 innings in his last two games, and he picked up his third win of the season against the Royals at Kauffman Stadium. Pavano allowed two runs and scattered nine hits in the complete game effort. Still, he only has a 4.83 ERA this year, which pales in comparison to the 3.75 ERA that he had last season in his 17 win campaign. The Twins had won five games in a row before losing 1-0 on Tuesday night, but that was already the sixth time that they were shutout this season.
Cleveland is more or less the opposite team of the Twins this year. The Tribe have truly overachieved at 34-25 this season, and they just picked up their 20th win of the season at Progressive Field. They have the best money mark in the game at +$1,338. However, just as Pavano is appearing to get his footing once again, the contrary is happening to the man that is going to oppose him on Wednesday, Justin Masterson. We know that the San Diego State product is going to end up being a stud in this rotation eventually. However, his 5-0 start to the season has clearly gone by the boards. The former Boston Red Sox standout didn't win a game in the month of May, and he hasn't had any luck here at the start of June either. For the season, Masterson is just 5-4 in spite of the fact that he has a 3.28 ERA, one of the better marks in the division. However, what we do need to note is that his ERA was down at 1.33 10 starts ago and has almost tripled since that point.
Minnesota Twins vs. Cleveland Indians Pick: Pavano is just 3-9 in his last 12 starts on the road, and we just don't see how he is going to get the job done in spite of the fact that the Indians and Masterson are slipping just a bit. This is a great price on a team that has played tremendous ball at home this year, and we have to go with the Indians -155.
