Boston Red Sox (35-26) vs. Toronto Blue Jays (32-31) MLB Betting Lines

Moneyline: Red Sox (-140) Blue Jays (+130)

Over/Under: 9.5

Starting Pitchers: Red Sox (Buchholz) vs. Yankees (Reyes)

The Red Sox played great at Yankee Stadium this week, and they’ll look to continue their momentum as they travel north of the border for a weekend series with the Blue Jays. Toronto lost a couple tough games to the Royals this week, but the Blue Jays have been playing pretty well overall in 2011.

Clay Buchholz will be the starter for the Red Sox in this one. Buchholz has been having some lower back pain of late, but he is expected to tough it out and pitch on Friday night. He didn’t make it out of the fifth inning in his last start against Oakland. The Red Sox pitching has been decent this year, but their lineup is really starting to crush the baseball. Boston ranks second in the majors in both batting average and runs scored per game. Adrian Gonzalez, Jacoby Ellsbury, David Ortiz, Carl Crawford, and Kevin Youkilis are all hitting the ball well right now. The Red Sox are 10-4 in their last 14 meetings with the Blue Jays in Toronto.

JoJo Reyes didn’t win a game for 22 starts, but he has now won in back-to-back contests. Can Reyes keep it going against a red hot Red Sox team? Jose Bautista was the breakout star of the league in 2010, and he is proving that was no fluke based on his amazing numbers in 2011. Bautista is hitting .341 with 20 home runs in just 63 games so far this year. Toronto is very good offensively overall. The Jays are fourth in runs scored per game and fifth in team batting average. They are extremely aggressive on the base paths, and they have already stolen 59 bases this year. The Blue Jays defense is a bit suspect, and they have already committed 42 errors this season.

Buchholz is a very good pitcher, but he isn’t completely healthy right now. Reyes has pitched better of late, but the Red Sox are the best offense in baseball right now. I think we’ll see a high scoring game here.
