Oakland Athletics (34-41) vs. Philadelphia Phillies (47-28) MLB Betting Lines

Moneyline: Phillies (-155) Athletics (+145)

Over/Under: 8.5

Starting Pitchers: Athletics (Moscoso) vs. Phillies (Worley)

Interleague baseball is in full swing this weekend. The matchups don’t contain as many classic rivalry games, but there should still be plenty of competitive baseball games to go around. The Athletics continue their East Coast trip as they take on the Phillies this weekend. Philadelphia comes in with the best record in the majors at 47-28. Oakland has been one of the streakiest teams in baseball this year, but their lack of offense has caught up with them of late.

Guillermo Moscoso will start for the Athletics in Game One of this series. Moscoso has a solid 3.30 ERA in his limited time in the major leagues. Pitching hasn’t been the problem for Oakland, but hitting and catching the ball have both been an issue. The Athletics lead the majors with 61 errors, which means a lot of unearned runs are crossing the plate. What about the Oakland offense? As a team, the Athletics are hitting just .237. They have just 30 home runs, which is 30th in the major leagues. There really is no one on this team that has been consistently hitting the ball. Coco Crisp leads the Athletics starters in batting average, but his average is a very mediocre .259.

Vance Worley will get the ball for the Phillies in this one. Worley has started just five times this year for the Phillies, but he has been good in all but one of his outings. For the year, Worley has a 3.41 ERA despite allowing opponents to hit .341. The Phillies offense has really turned it on of late. This is an offense that has gotten healthy, and they are now one of the best in baseball. It’s tough to find a weak spot in a lineup containing the likes of Rollins, Victorino, Utley, Howard, Polanco, and others. Polanco has been one of Phillies most consistent run producers this year, and he is often overlooked. Utley is still recovering from an injury, but he appears to be seeing the ball better of late. The Phillies are the most complete team in baseball right now.

Moscoso has pitched pretty well so far in limited action, but I think the Phillies will get to him in this one. I rarely lay this large of a number, but I think the Phillies are a far better team than the Athletics.
