New York Yankees (51-33) vs. Cleveland Indians (45-39) MLB Betting Lines
Moneyline: Yankees (-105) Indians (-105)
Starting Pitchers: Yankees (Hughes) vs. Indians (Masterson)
The Indians took the first game of this series, but it was the Yankees who piled up nine runs on 17 hits to take the second game of the series last night. The Indians were in a bit of a tailspin for a while, but they have since got back going and they are at the front of the AL Central. The Yankees have been playing great baseball, and they have taken back to the division lead in the AL East. It’s a battle of two division leaders on Wednesday night in Cleveland.
Phil Hughes will come off the 60-day disabled list to start for the Yankees in this one. He was terrible at the beginning of the year, but he has been much better in recent minor league outings. The Yankees are counting on Hughes to give them improved pitching depth. The Yankees continue to bash home runs at an amazing pace. New York has hit 121 home runs already in 2011, which is easily the top mark in baseball. The Yankees average 5.3 runs per game, which is also best in the majors. Nick Swisher started the season cold, but he has been on an absolute tear of late. Alex Rodriguez and Robinson Cano have also been swinging the bat well in the last few weeks.
The Indians have been one of the biggest surprises in all of baseball this year. Justin Masterson’s terrific pitching has been one of the big reasons this team has gotten to the top of the division. Masterson has a terrific 2.65 ERA thus far in 2011. Asdrubal Cabrera has been the MVP for the Indians so far this year, but he left Tuesday’s game with an injury and he is questionable for this matchup. Shin Soo Choo and Matt LaPorta are also out of the lineup, and it seems the key injuries are really starting to mount for the Indians. On the positive side, Travis Hafner is back to crushing the baseball now that he is healthy again. Hafner is hitting .331 and he has an on-base-percentage of .411 this season.
The Yankees lineup is much better than the Indians, and that gap may be even larger on Wednesday since Cabrera is questionable. I think the Yankees will win this one.
