This week on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball, MLB betting fans will get a chance to take in a duel from Busch Stadium, as the St. Louis Cardinals play host to the Colorado Rockies.
The Rockies really should have had a better season than they are, but they definitely are working towards future seasons now that they have dealt Ubaldo Jimenez. Things aren't all lost though, especially knowing that the man on the mound on Sunday, Esmil Rogers is one of the up and coming pitchers in this organization. Rogers has some odds numbers this year thanks to some struggles out of the bullpen in short appearances, but as a starter this year, he has been great. The righty is 6-1 on the campaign in spite of the fact that he has a 5.85 ERA. He has brought that ERA down from 8.49 in his last three starts though, all of which have been wins for Colorado. Rogers has allowed just four total runs in his last 16.2 innings of work, and he has struck out 16 against just five walks in the process. Save for a terrible start against the San Diego Padres, he has only allowed one homer in his other 37 frames, something that is going to keep him out of a lot of trouble pitching in Coors Field.
The Cardinals are still fighting hard to stay in the race in the NL Central, but they are going to need to really get some better production out of the man on the mound on Sunday, Edwin Jackson if they are going to get into the postseason. Jackson had a terrible start two weeks ago against the Milwaukee Brewers, allowing 10 runs and 14 hits in seven innings of work. He came back six days later and pitched significantly better against the same Brew Crew, allowing three runs in six innings, but his team still suffered the loss. Now to make matters worse, Jackson has an 0-2 mark with a 17.28 ERA. Needless to say, these aren't number that can get much worse. For the season, Jackson has totaled an 8-8 record with a 4.07 ERA. He has 109 strikeouts against 44 walks. Unfortunately, the righty has been traded all over the place in his career, and he hasn't been able to call one place home for all that long. Unfortunately, if he keeps up this mediocre and inconsistent pitching on the mound, that's probably going to continue.
Colorado Rockies @ St. Louis Cardinals Pick: We just look at these numbers for Jackson against the Rockies and cringe. Neither one of these men is really all that sharp, but at least Rogers has shown some signs of potential. The Rocks are getting a great price tag here on the MLB odds, and we have to take them on Sunday Night Baseball. Rockies +145 @ Bookmaker Sportsbook.
