Los Angeles Angels (72-60) vs. Texas Rangers (75-59) MLB Betting Lines from BetOnline
Moneyline: Rangers (-108) Angels (-102)
Starting Pitchers: Angels (Weaver) vs. Rangers (Lewis)
Most people were ready to give up on the Angels a couple weeks ago, but they have gotten right back into the thick of the AL West with an impressive hot streak of late. The Rangers were able to take the first game of the series on Friday night. The Angels bounced back by beating the Rangers last night. The Angels send ace Jered Weaver to the mound in this finale of the series, and both teams understand the importance of this game.
What has fueled the Angels red hot run of late? The Angels offense has really come alive of late. The pitching staff has been very good all year, but the lineup has been inconsistent. In the last week, the Angels offense has exploded. In six of their last seven games the Angels have scored at least 7 runs. Howard Kendrick and Peter Bourjos have been setting the table and guys like Torii Hunter and Vernon Wells have really picked up their production over the last week. Bobby Abreu has had a disappointing season, and the team would definitely like to see him get going. The Angels pitching staff has an ERA of 3.50, which is fifth best in the majors.
Colby Lewis will start for the Rangers in this key Sunday night game. Lewis has a very interesting home/road split breakdown this season. On the road, Lewis has an ERA of 2.71. It’s a whole different story when he is pitching in Texas. Lewis has a poor ERA of 5.56 at home. He’ll need to show up and give his team a chance against Weaver, who is one of the baseball’s best pitchers. Texas has one of the best offenses in baseball. The Rangers are averaging 5.03 runs per game, which is third best in all of baseball. Michael Young is the steady leader for this offense, and he is hitting .338 this season. With Josh Hamilton, Ian Kinsler, Nelson Cruz, and Mitch Moreland, Texas has a full lineup of tough hitters.
The Angels are 8-2 in Weaver’s last 10 starts overall. The Rangers are 0-4 in Lewis’ last 4 starts against the Angels. At virtually even money, I like the Angels moneyline in this one.
