The Halos were beaten again on Friday afternoon, and they are now just 2-5 on the season. It isn't time to panic quite yet, but the time is going to come that this team is going to need to string together some wins to justify all of the spending that the team did in the offseason. One of the men that cashed in big time during the offseason spending was CJ Wilson, and he is going to be on the field on Saturday afternoon for the Halos. Wilson pitched well in his debut for his new team against the Minnesota Twins to start off the campaign, allowing just one run in seven innings to pick up the victory. He doesn't have a great history against the Yankees though, and that could prove to be problematic in this one. Wilson is just 0-3 with two saves and three holds from his time in the bullpen for the Texas Rangers, though he does have quite the respectable 3.80 ERA against the Bronx Bombers. Two years ago, Wilson took on the Yankees in the playoffs twice. He didn't fare well in those games either, allowing nine runs, eight of which were earned in just a dozen innings.
The Yankees are starting to play better ball. They have rebounded from those first three losses of the season to the Tampa Bay Rays by rolling off four straight victories, and now, they are in a position where they can get back into first place in the AL East with some good play over the weekend as well. There are a heck of a lot of pitchers that are going to be vying for spots in the starting rotation this year in the Bronx, and that puts a heck of a lot of pressure on Phil Hughes, the man getting the baseball from Manager Joe Girardi on Saturday. Hughes has been all over the place for the Yankees in his career. This is going to be his 122nd appearance and his 73rd start in his career. He has a 36-24 record with three saves and 18 holds. Hughes seems quite likely to be heading back to the bullpen at some point this season, especially if he pitches like he did in his first outing of the year. The righty gave up five hits and two runs in just 4.2 innings of work against Tampa Bay, taking the loss back on April 8th.
Los Angeles Angels @ New York Yankees Pick: We just don't like playing on the hosts in this one. Eventually, Anaheim is going to figure it out and get some big time wins together. We think that this will be the day that the luck for the Angels turns around.
