Last year, the push for the playoffs in the National League came down to just two teams, and in the end, the St. Louis Cardinals got the best of the Atlanta Braves and ended up winning the World Series. Now, the two meet in MLB betting action on TBS's Sunday baseball betting affair to wrap up this weekend series.

The good news for the Braves is that they are one of the most competitive teams right now in the National League. The bad news is that the Philadelphia Phillies are bound to start winning some games eventually, and in general, the NL East is as tough of a division as there is to play in at the moment. This is already going to be the 21st road game of the season for Atlanta though, and as long as the team plays .500 ball on the road and can manage to hold serve at Turner Field, this is going to be a tough team to keep out of the playoffs once again. The man that is getting the ball on Sunday afternoon is Tommy Hanson. In 2009 when Hanson came up to the majors, he was on fire, going 11-4 and coming up with one of the best seasons that an Atlanta rookie has ever had. Since that point, he has tailed off just a bit, and this year is no exception. The righty is 3-3 with a 3.63 ERA. His walk total is probably a smidge high at 16, but 34 strikeouts in 39.2 innings of work is stellar.
The Cardinals are really getting some awesome contributions out of Carlos Beltran over the course of the first month of the season. Beltran blasted two more homers on Friday to raise his total up to a dozen for the year, and he is spurring on an offense that is really getting the job done. One of the men that has really done a heck of a lot of benefiting from that offense is Lance Lynn, who is out to move to 7-0 on the season in his first seven starts. Lynn, at just 25 years old, has come out of the blocks in his first year in an MLB rotation with a huge gusto, striking out 37 batters in 38.2 innings of work. His ERA of 1.40 is amongst the best in the bigs, and he could be well on his way to an appearance in the All Star Game. Lynn has allowed just six runs, and he hasn't allowed more than two in any of his starts. However, it must be noted that he has had his pitch count raised just a bit in recent games, and that at least has to be a bit concerning.
Atlanta Braves @ St. Louis Cardinals Pick: There is a point that Lynn is going to be overvalued, and we might be at that point. This kid isn't going to win every time out there, and these two teams really shouldn't be separated by all that much. Go with the Braves at plus odds, even on the road on Sunday.
