Game Overview

It wasn't all that long ago that both the Tampa Bay Rays and the Toronto Blue Jays were both in the playoff chase in the American League. That's obviously changed for Toronto, but it is still going to try to make life hell on Tampa Bay in this Thursday night MLB betting clash in the Great White North.

It continues to be a season that defies all logic for Tampa Bay. The Rays still are getting absolutely nothing from any of their big time bats, yet they are still right there in the thick of the playoff fight. Still, some relatively recent struggles on this road trip have dropped them behind both the Baltimore Orioles and Oakland Athletics for the two Wild Card slots. Matt Moore is going to be charged with the task of winning this game on Thursday. Moore has had a great first full season in the bigs, going 10-7 with a 3.60 ERA. The southpaw has been particularly good over the course of his last seven starts, as he has allowed just nine runs in those outings and has a 4-0 record. He has put together five quality starts in his last six, and he just keeps finding ways to keep the Rays in games. Moore is striking out batters left and right as well, accounting for 145 whiffs in 150 innings of work. He truly is part of the future of this franchise, and his stuff is as nasty as it gets.

Toronto's season was effectively over with an atrocious stretch in June and July, not to mention the seven-game skid that it went on in August. However, there are definitely some bright sides to look at, not the least of which is the fact that the Jays just went into Yankee Stadium and took two out of three from the New York Yankees. Carlos Villanueva is also a high point of this year, and he is going to be the man on the bump on Thursday. This righty has been in and out of the rotation this season, just as he was last year with Toronto. This season, he has a 6-4 record in total, and he has a 3.30 ERA. Since the start of August, Villanueva hasn't logged a win and has gone 0-4, but it's not like it has been all his fault. He has allowed 16 runs in 31 innings, and with an ERA of less than 5.00, he should at least have one victory in that bunch, one would think.

MLB Prediction

In the end, we just don't think that the offense for the Rays is going to be able to get the job done in this one. We have seen this unit fail and fail miserably before, and we think that Villanueva is going to finally get some luck on his side to break his bad losing skid. Toronto 4 – Tampa Bay 2
