Game Overview

Two teams that could very well turn out to be playoff foes in the National League meet on Thursday night for MLB betting action, as the Washington Nationals hope to take out the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Dodgers really haven't been all that great since the mega deals a month ago that brought so many new faces to their team. They're out of the NL West race at this point, but they still have a decent chance of getting in as a Wild Card. They're just two back of the St. Louis Cardinals with 13 to play, though they do have a lot of contenders around them as well, such as the Pittsburgh Pirates, Arizona Diamondbacks, Milwaukee Brewers, and Philadelphia Phillies. LA sends one of its most consistent arms to the mound on Thursday in the form of Chris Capuano. You know exactly what you're getting from this lefty year in and year out. You're getting somewhere between 10 and 12 win, you're getting 200ish innings, you're getting an ERA in the high-3.00s or low-4.00s, and you're getting some bad pitching when you really need it most. Of course, that's why Capuano has gone into the tank at the end of year, as his ERA is up a half run from where it was just six starts ago. Needless to say, in those six starts, Capuano has a grand total of zero wins, though at least LA has won its last three in spite of its lefty being on the bump.

And then there are the Nats, who have to at least still be looking over their shoulders just a bit at the Atlanta Braves, who are six back in the loss column with 14 to go. Tonight could be the night that the city of Washington DC celebrates its first playoff appearance in decades, as a win parlayed with a loss by the Milwaukee Brewers will get the job done, and that's definitely worth celebrating. Ross Detwiler is going to be the man on the mound on Thursday night that is tabbed with the task of getting the Nationals into the postseason. Detwiler has spent most of his year in the rotation, and he really has pitched well at times, going 9-6 with a 3.16 ERA. This is a man that has done a great job keeping the ball down, as he has allowed just 11 homers in 151 innings of work. He has a 1.19 WHIP thanks to a low walk total and a .242 batting average against. The only complaint that we have is that we would like to see more strikeouts than the 94 that he has thus far in the campaign.

The Nationals are waiting for a huge celebration, and this is the celebration that they are going to have in the clubhouse tonight. Capuano has been a nightmare, and we expect to see that continue. Go ahead and celebrate, Washington. You've got yourselves a playoff team. Washington 6 – Los Angeles 3
