Philadelphia Phillies
(8-5, +$25)

Atlanta Braves
(8-5, +$201)

ESPN's Wednesday Night Baseball kicks off tonight at 7:10 ET with a duel an MLB betting battle between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Atlanta Braves. These teams out of the NL East are currently tied for the top spot in the division, with the winner taking a slender one game lead following tonight's proceedings. Atlanta won Game 1 of this three game set 4-3 in extra innings after the Phillies' bullpen imploded and allowed four earned runs in 1.0+ innings of work.

Tonight, Manager Charlie Manuel is going to hand the ball over to RHP Roy Halladay. Halladay, the team's newly acquired ace has been absolutely spectacular in three outings this year. He has pitched at least seven innings and given up no more than two earned runs in any start, totaling a 3-0 record with a 1.13 ERA. The Phils sport the #1 offense in the majors as well, averaging 6.23 runs per game.

Atlanta is going to counter by throwing its version of "Old Reliable," RHP Tim Hudson. Hudson finally is starting to look like he has the ability to stay healthy, and even though he isn't pitching particularly deep into games, he is still getting the job done. Hudson is 1-0 with a 2.84 ERA in two starts this year. Keep an eye on RF Jason Heyward, who has already blasted four home runs this year, including the game-tying shot in the 9th inning against RHP Ryan Madson last night.

It's hard to not like Halladay in this spot, especially considering the fact that the Phillies are just relatively short favorites. Yes, the stud right-hander is going to lose a few games every now and again this year, but this is a percentage play. If Hudson can't last into the seventh or eighth inning, that Atlanta bullpen, which many think is still shoddy, is going to get tested against a very high-octane offense. Back the Phils tonight.
