New York Yankees
Boston Red Sox
Fox has another pair of great MLB betting battles available for you to sink your teeth into on Saturday afternoon, including the second game of a crucial three game duel between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox. In Game 1 of this series, the Bronx Bombers lit up RHP Josh Beckett for nine runs in 5.1 innings in a 10-3 romp over their arch rivals. New York still sits behind Tampa Bay for first place in the AL East, but it has opened up a very comfortable six game cushion on the Red Sox coming into Saturday.
The news gets even worse for the Red Sox. Now, they have to go up against LHP CC Sabathia on Saturday. The southpaw is once again posting dominant numbers in his second season in pinstripes. Sabathia has thrown at least 7.2 innings in four of his six starts, and has a 4-1 record and a 2.74 ERA to show for it. His career against the Red Sox isn't fantastic, as he is just 5-5 with a 3.62 ERA against them. On Opening Day, Sabathia conceded five runs in 5.1 innings, as New York lost 9-7 to these Sox.
RHP Clay Buchholz could really be making a name for himself here in 2010, and he could really turn some heads if he could outpitch Sabathia on Saturday. The righty hasn't pitched overly deep into games this year, only lasting into the eighth inning once, but he is 3-2 with a 2.97 ERA. He's done a nice job of keeping the ball in the park, allowing just one dinger on the year, and if not for five unearned runs in his first two starts, his numbers would look significantly better. Buchholz has never beaten the Yankees in three career starts (0-1, 5.74 ERA).
The Yankees look like a train that just can't be stopped right now, while the Red Sox are merely trying to figure out how to get into the station. It's not often that you see Sabathia as this short of a favorite, and we're going to take advantage of that by backing him on Saturday in spite of the fact that this game is at Fenway Park.
