Boston Red Sox
(19-19, -$721)

New York Yankees
(24-13, +$660)

The arch rivals of baseball meet up on the diamond at Yankee Stadium for the first time this year, and MLB betting fans will get their chance to sink their teeth into all of the action between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees starting on Monday. This miniature two-game series is the first of seven very tough games against rivals this week for the Bronx Bombers, who have two with Boston, two with Tampa Bay, and three with the cross town Mets. The Red Sox are losers of three out of four and five out of nine and are still in a major chase position in the AL East that they may be in for the rest of the season.

That really may continue if RHP Daisuke Matsuzaka can't turn things around. For the second straight season, the Japanese native is looking more like a liability than an asset. Boston might be 2-1 in his three starts, but no one is ranting and raving over a 6.35 ERA, especially considering the fact that batters are probably going to hit a lot better than the .234 they're hitting against him right now by the time the season is over with. Dice-K easily had his best start since the '08 season six days ago against Toronto, allowing just one earned run on three hits and no walks against the Jays.

RHP Phil Hughes has been unstoppable this year. That's right. No one in baseball has a better batting average against than the man that was once subjected to the boos of the Bronx cheers. However, at 5-0 with a svelte 1.38 ERA, not only has Hughes turned those jeers into cheers, but he is a legitimate Cy Young Award contender if he can keep this up. He has already stymied the Sox once this year, throwing seven innings and allowing just two earned runs in a 10-3 victory.

Even though Hughes is hot, we just don't believe he's that great. Matsuzaka looked good the last time that he was on the mound, and if he can look anything like that man on Monday night, we're getting an absolutely fantastic price on the Red Sox in spite of the fact that they are just 3-14 in their L/17 MLB betting battles with the Yankees.
