New York Yankees
ESPN is back with yet another primetime baseball betting battle on Wednesday night from the Bronx, as the New York Yankees play host to the Philadelphia Phillies. Last night, the Phils were roughed up yet again, by an 8-3 count in a duel between two of the top hurlers in the game.
LHP Jamie Moyer was bombed by the Red Sox in his most recent start over the weekend, giving up nine runs in 1.0+ inning of work. The ageless wonder is now 6-6 with a 5.03 ERA for the year. Those numbers are significantly down from where he was at just a few weeks ago, as he is 1-4 in his L/5 starts since May 19th. Opposing batters aren't taking pot shots at the wily veteran as one may think, as they are only batting .256 against him for the season. Moyer has conceded 11 home runs though in just 12 starts, and he is approaching Robin Roberts for the most dingers given up in MLB history. The southpaw has faced the Yanks 36 times in his career, going 10-9 with a 4.78 ERA.
Home has most certainly been where the heart is this year for RHP AJ Burnett. The Yankees' righty is 3-1 with a 2.27 ERA in five outings in the Bronx. Overall, Burnett is 6-4 with a 3.86 ERA. His numbers really could, and probably should be a lot better considering the lineup that is around him, but the Yankees have put up three runs or less for him in three of his L/4 outings. Burnett is coming off of back to back miserable starts, as he allowed ten runs and 14 hits in 12.2 innings of work. The end result was road losses to both Toronto and Baltimore. Burnett is 5-8 with a 4.75 ERA lifetime against the Phillies.
It feels like we talk about this every single time that we discuss the Phillies, but it is worth repeating. There is just something wrong with this team right now, and we can't quite put our finger on it. The Bronx Bombers are simply unstoppable at home right now regardless of who is and who isn't in the lineup. It's a chalky play, but we'll take Burnett at home to rebound as the bats come to life and blow Moyer out of the water.
