Remember when most of the experts said it would be tough for Texas to keep up with the Los Angeles Angels in the AL West after Josh Hamilton signed with the Angels? Texas is tied for the best record in baseball; while the Angels are ten games under .500 and 11 games back of the Rangers.

Atlanta had the best record in baseball earlier this year, but the Braves have lost five of their last six. Atlanta is now only a game ahead of the Washington Nationals. It’s a three way battle at the top of the NL Central, and that is a battle that could easily last all year long.

This weekend’s slate of games includes some interesting matchups. Detroit and Texas is a heavyweight battle in the American League. Toronto has perked up a bit of late. Can they keep it going as they face off against the Yankees in the Bronx this weekend?

BangtheBook wants to give baseball bettors some extra information to try to stay ahead of the books this year. This MLB betting article will be done twice a week during the baseball season to give you trends to consider before wagering your money on baseball. Let’s look at trends to consider for series’ this weekend.

-Milwaukee will visit St. Louis this weekend in an NL Central battle. The Brewers are just 10-25 in their last 35 games against the Cardinals. They are 5-12 in their last 17 games in St. Louis. Milwaukee has been scuffling in a big way of late. They are just 1-10 in their last 11 games against the NL Central.

-Houston is 34-94 in their last 128 games. The Astros are 13-58 in their last 71 games against a team with a winning record. They’ve struggled quite a bit in Pittsburgh over the past couple years. Houston is just 5-16 in their last 21 games at Pittsburgh.

-The ‘over’ is a perfect 9-0-3 in Tampa Bay’s last 12 road games. The over is 19-4-4 in the Rays last 27 games overall. An offense that struggled through the first few weeks of the season has really kicked it into high gear as the Rays have made a nice run of late. Tampa Bay will meet with Baltimore this weekend. The over is 4-0-2 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.

-Cincinnati is arguably the hottest team in baseball right now, but their recent history against the Philadelphia Phillies isn’t pretty. Cincinnati is 18-38 in their last 56 games against Philadelphia. They are 7-19 in their last 26 games in Philadelphia.

-The ‘under’ is 22-5 in the Texas Rangers last 27 Friday games. They’ll be hosting the Detroit Tigers on Friday. The over is 13-5-2 in the last 20 meetings between these two teams in Texas. Something has to give in this game. Rick Porcello and Nick Tepesch will be on the mound Friday, so I’m not sure I could advocate a play on the under.

-While you weren’t looking, Jorge De La Rosa has been brilliant pitching at Coors Field for the Colorado Rockies. The Rockies are 26-4 in De La Rosa’s last 30 home starts. Quite an amazing streak for a guy that quite a few people have never heard of. He’ll start on Friday at home against the San Francisco Giants.

-Kansas City is 18-37 in their last 55 games following a day off. Isn’t a day of rest supposed to help a team be ready to go? For some reason, the Royals haven’t been getting effect at all.

-Tampa Bay is 8-0 in Matt Moore’s first 8 starts for the team this year. Moore might have an even higher upside than David Price going forward. He’ll start for the Rays on Sunday against the Baltimore Orioles.
