The game will feature two pitchers looking to get their records above .500. Homer Bailey gets the start for the Reds. Bailey is 3-3 on the year and has posted an ERA of 3.08. For the Tribe, Scott Kazmir toes the rubber with a 2 and 2 won-loss record and sporting a 5.94 ERA. Kazmir has not gotten past the 6th inning in any of his 7 starts this year for Cleveland, and that is not good news for this Indians team whose bullpen has been torched lately.
Bailey on the other hand has apparently gotten it together in his last three starts, giving up just 4 earned runs in 22 innings pitched. In those three starts he has 21 strike outs while only walking 4. If Bailey continues to pitch like he has as of late, it could be a long night for the Indians.
With Tuesday’s loss to the Reds in Cincinnati, Cleveland has lost 5 staright and has fallen two back of the Tigers. The Reds are heating up with the temperatures, going 8-2 in their last 10 and moving to within a game and a half of the first place Cardinals.
The bullpen, which had been a strength for Cleveland early, starting the year at 8-0, has now lost three straight. Not only that, but they are just 1 -11 in save opportunities. If Homer Bailey can continue to shrink his ERA and the Reds can get to Kazmir early, the Reds could be entering June as one of baseball’s hottest teams. They will have also taken another "Battle of Ohio" series from their cross-state, interleague rivals.
