The Dodgers were slated to play a quick two-game series against New York before heading back to the West Coast to kick-off a four-game series against San Diego, but a Tuesday night rainout has turned this into a Wednesday double-header. Game 1 is set for 1:05 p.m. with this game set for a 7:05 p.m. start. The good news is that Los Angeles should be well-rested after dropping six of its last eight games to fall to 29-39 on the year. It is 10-19 on the road this season and the total has gone OVER in six of its last seven games.
Los Angeles comes into this series with a respectable team ERA of 3.84, but it remains one of the weakest scoring teams in the National League with an average of just 3.53 runs per game. It also does not help that both Matt Kemp and Carl Crawford are still on the DL. The Dodgers will turn to Chris Capuano as their starter for Wednesday’s nightcap. The left-hander is 1-4 on the year with a 5.45 ERA. Lifetime against the Yankees he is 0-2 with an ERA of 10.61.
New York snapped a five-game losing streak with a 6-5 victory over the Los Angeles Angels this past Sunday as a 127 road underdog as part of a 10-game West Coast swing in which it went 4-6. It returns home where it has gone 19-13 at Yankee Stadium and it has an overall record of 38-31. The total has stayed UNDER in seven of its last 10 games.
The Yankees’ disabled list has been filled with big names all season long but they continue to find ways to manufacture victories behind a pitching staff that is ranked fourth in the American League with a team ERA of 3.71. They have also struggled at the plate to produce runs with an average of 3.91 a game. Phil Hughes was scheduled to get the start on Tuesday night, but he has been bumped to the second game on Wednesday. The right-hander lasted a little over four innings in his last start and was tagged with the loss against Oakland to fall to 3-5 on the year in 13 starts. He has an overall ERA of 4.89 and has given-up 12 earned runs in his last two starts at home. This will be Hughes first career start against the Dodgers.

The second game of a double-header should favor the team with the better overall pitching staff which in this case would give the slight edge to New York. This could be especially true if the Dodgers have to go deep into their bullpen in Game 1. Look for the Yankees to take full advantage of the situation to gain a much needed win at home.
