Game Overview

The Giants kick-off this three-game set against their NL West rivals fresh-off a rough home stand where they went just 1-3 against Miami this past weekend. They are now three full games in back of Arizona in the division after going 4-6 in their last 10 outings. San Francisco is 38-37 overall and 14-22 on the road. The total has stayed UNDER in three of its last five games.

A power shortage at the plate has been the root cause of the Giants’ slight downturn these past few weeks with four or less runs in seven of their last 10 games. They only managed a total of eight runs in the series against the Marlins but they still ranked sixth in the National League in scoring this season with an average of 4.24 runs a game. San Francisco will go with Madison Bumgarner as its starter for this series opener. The left-hander is 7-4 this season with a 3.25 ERA. He allowed just two runs on three hits his last time out against San Diego in seven innings of work. Bumgarner is 6-2 against Los Angeles with a 2.53 ERA.

The Dodgers continue to try and turn things around but with a 4-6 record in their last 10 games, they have now fallen 8.5 games out of first in the division. They are 32-42 overall and a game below .500 at home at 19-20. The total has stayed UNDER in three of their last five games. Los Angeles split a four-game series on the road against the Padres this past weekend by winning the last two contests by a combined score of 9-2.

Hitting has not really been an issue for the Dodgers this season with a team batting average of .255, but they have done a poor job at turning this production at the plate into runs on the scoreboard. Heading into this series they are ranked 13th in the NL in scoring. Overall, their pitching staff is ranked sixth in the league with a team ERA of 3.76. Hyun-Jin Ryu is slated to get the start on Monday night. The left-hander is coming off a quality start last week against the Yankees and he has gone at least six innings in 13 of his 14 starts this year. He is 6-3 on the year with an ERA of 2.96. Ryu is 0-2 against the Giants with a 3.65 ERA.
