A National League East match-up will be featured in Major League Baseball betting action when the Atlanta Braves face the Philadelphia Phillies Monday night at 7:05 ET at Citizens Bank Park. This will be the first series between these two old division rivals in the 2014 season.

The Braves dominated the Washington Nationals on Sunday afternoon as they won 10-2 at Turner Field. The sweep of the Nationals took them to 8-4 SU as they currently lead the division standings. First baseman Freddie Freeman had a big day at the plate going 2-for-2 with four RBI’s and two runs scored. Atlanta’s big bomber right fielder Jason Heyward went deep in the game with a three-run shot for his first homer of the season. Taking the bump for the Braves will be pitcher Ervin Santana who had a great last start going 8.0 innings, giving up three hits, and no earned runs in a 4-3 win over the New York Mets. Atlanta is 7-5 against the run-line thus far including covers in its L/2 outings. Offense hasn’t really been winning these games for the Braves as their team batting average is just .246 and they score only 3.83 runs per game as the league’s 20th ranked scoring team. They have shown signs of turning it around though scoring 23 runs in the L/3 games so look for that trend to continue in this game.

The Phillies finished off a sweep of their own on Sunday as they beat the Miami Marlins 4-3 in the rubber match of the three-game series. First baseman Ryan Howard and second baseman Chase Utley both hit homeruns in the win. Utley is batting a ridiculous .500 on the season with three homers to his credit including the game winner on Sunday. This team has the third highest batting average in the league hitting .276 and they score 4.67 runs per game. Right handed pitcher Roberto Hernandez will be on the mound for Philadelphia Monday for his third start of the young season. In his last start against the Milwaukee Brewers he went 5.0 innings, struck out nine, but gave up three earned runs in the 9-4 loss as he received a no decision. The Phils have started the year at 6-6 SU as they will look to get over .500 with a win in this game. They have struggled defensively giving up 4.22 runs per game and that certainly does not bode well for them facing a hot Braves offense.

The Braves are 3-1 in their L/4 match-ups with the Phillies as both teams are riding three game winning streaks entering Monday’s action. We feel like this is a bad time to play the Braves as their offense is seriously on fire at the moment. Take Atlanta to get the road victory in this game and take a minute to consider also laying the run-line.
