An American League East match-up will be featured in Major League Baseball betting action when the New York Yankees face the Boston Red Sox Wednesday night at 7:10 ET at Fenway Park on ESPN. This Wednesday night game will be the second in a four game series between these two rivals.

The Yankees have been hot of late and that continued on Tuesday night as they blew out the Red Sox 9-3 at Fenway. It was the return of Jacoby Ellsbury to Boston and he burned his old team going 2-for-5 with a double and a triple while knocking in two runs and scoring two more. In his final season Derek Jeter got this series with his arch nemesis off to a fast start going 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBI’s and a run scored. Pitcher Masahiro Tanaka continued his strong start throwing 7.1 innings giving up just two runs and striking out seven. On Wednesday it will be right hander Michael Pineda taking the hill for New York. Pineda has also had a good start going 2-1 with a 1.00 ERA in 18.0 innings of work. If the Yanks can get another big outing from their defense that is giving up 4.15 runs per game they could grab a 2-0 series lead. At 12-8 SU New York has the best record in the AL East thus far and they have shown themselves as a strong contender to return to prominence.

The Red Sox find themselves in unfamiliar territory looking up at everyone in the AL East standings with a 9-11 SU record. Their slow start to the season took another hit on Tuesday as they couldn’t stop the Yankees from embarrassing them in their own park. Pitcher Jon Lester made it just 4.2 innings in the game as he gave up three earned runs on 11 hits, but two errors by the defense let in five unearned runs and he fell to 2-3 on the season. Coach John Farrell will send John Lackey to the mound on Wednesday as he tries to get this team back on track. Lackey isn’t off to the best start himself as he has gone 2-2 with a 5.25 ERA in 24.0 innings. First baseman Mike Napoli has been the bright spot for this struggling Boston offense as he is hitting .286 with five homeruns. As a team the Red Sox are batting just .239 and scoring only 3.76 runs per game. Something will have to change as that is simply not enough production playing in the league’s friendliest offensive park on a daily basis.

The Yankees are playing great baseball right now and we like the fact that they come in as a +116 ‘underdog’ in this game. New York is 6-2 in its L/8 games and they will throw an abundance of left handed batters at the right handed Lackey to score some runs. Take the Yankees to get another win at Fenway on Wednesday and increase their lead in the AL East standings.

New York Yankees @ Boston Red Sox Pick: New York Yankees +116
