An American League match-up will be featured in Major League Baseball betting action when the Los Angeles Angels face the New York Yankees Sunday night at 8:00 ET at Yankee Stadium on ESPN. This Sunday night game will be the rubber match in a three game series with both teams taking one contest so far.
The Angels were tied 3-3 with the Yankees through four innings on Saturday, but they failed to score anymore runs and fell 4-3 in the Bronx. Center fielder Mike Trout had a good day going 2-for-3 at the plate knocking in one run and scoring another as he hit a solo homerun in the first inning. Trout is showing why he is so highly paid with a .312 batting average to go with six homeruns and 15 RBI to start the season. Designated hitter Albert Pujols also had a nice day going 2-for-5 and scoring a run, on the flip side he did leave four men on base. Pitcher Victor Santiago was responsible for giving up all four Yanks runs in just 4.1 innings of work. On Sunday the Angels will send right hander Garrett Richards to the mound in New York. He has a 2.52 ERA having given up just 13 hits in 25.0 innings of action. It will be a tall order for the righty to shut down this Yankees lineup, but he figures to get plenty of run support from an offense that leads the league scoring 5.57 runs per game.
The Yankees got an important victory to recover from Friday night where they were shellacked 13-1 by the Angels. They got a huge lift from an unexpected source on Saturday as catcher John Ryan Murphy hit the first homerun of his Major League career, a three run shot that gave his team a 3-1 lead in the second inning. Pitcher Vidal Nuno got the start for New York and threw 4.1 innings giving up three runs and five hits. It was rookie Dellin Batances on the mound in the fifth inning as the Yanks took the lead for good and he was credited with the first win of his career. Sunday manager Joe Girardi will call upon right hander Masahiro Tanaka to continue a campaign that so far has seen him undefeated at 3-0. Tanaka has a 2.15 ERA in 29.1 innings pitched and has only given up 22 hits in that span. If Girardi can get a solid effort out of Tanaka this could be an easy win for the home squad.
The Yankees are 21-8 in the L/29 meetings with the Angels at home in Yankee Stadium. On Sunday we expect Mr. Tanaka to have another knockout performance and show why the ownership brought him to the United States for such a high price tag. Take the Yankees to get a big win over the Angels and get a win in this series behind Tanaka’s pitching and the Bronx Bombers.
