One of baseball’s oldest rivalries will be renewed in Major League Baseball betting action when the Chicago Cubs ride to the south side to face the Chicago White Sox Wednesday night at 8:10 ET on ESPN at U.S. Cellular Field. This will be the third in a four game home-and-home series between these two with the White Sox taking two games at Wrigley Field to start things off.

The Cubs only scored one run in each of the first two games of this series and must get things going to get a win in this game. They fell 5-1 in the second game of the series as Junior Lake scored the lone run on a hit by Emilio Bonifacio that tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. Chicago hung around for eight innings before the bullpen gave up three runs in the top of the ninth. On Wednesday the Cubs will send out left handed pitcher Travis Wood to try to stop a three game losing streak. Wood was great in his last start in a 6-5 win over the St. Louis Cardinals as he threw 7.0 strong innings giving up two earned runs on six hits and struck out six batters. The Cubs are struggling offensively this season scoring just 3.68 runs per game and their team batting average is a meager .228 thus far. They must find a way to score some runs against this tough White Sox pitching staff to have a chance on Wednesday.

The White Sox got some clutch hitting to score some runs late in the game starting with a homerun from Gordon Beckham in the eighth inning that proved to be the game-winner. A pair of doubles in the ninth produced the insurance runs that ended up making this look like a blowout. The bullpen did an amazing job for Chicago as it allowed just two base runners on walks, no runs, and no hits in four innings of work. This pitching staff will send lefty John Danks to the mound on Wednesday as he tries to extend his team’s current three game winning streak. Danks was not at his best in his last start as he was lit up by the Cleveland Indians giving up 10 hits and eight earned runs in a 12-5 loss. He will need a much better outing in this game to keep the Cubbies in check. The Sox have one of the league’s best offenses scoring 5.03 runs per game and they hold a .260 team batting average.

The Cubs are due to get going in this game as they make the short trip to the other side of the Windy City. We expect to see the Cubbies put up some runs on Danks who has a 5.00 ERA to this point and his team is just 2-8 SU in his L/10 home starts. Take the Cubs as the ‘underdog’ at +105 to get the job done with Wood on the mound to hold down this solid White Sox lineup.
