An American League Central match-up will be featured in Major League Baseball betting action when the Detroit Tigers travel to face the Cleveland Indians Monday night at 7:05 ET on ESPN at Progressive Field. The Tigers come in as ‘favorites’ on the board after a weekend series with the Boston Red Sox.
The Tigers finished off a sweep of the Red Sox in a 6-2 win on Sunday night at Fenway Park. Leadoff hitter Ian Kinsler went 4-for-5 at the plate and scored two runs in the win. Five of Detroit’s six runs came from the top four hitters in the lineup as Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez both had two RBI’s apiece. Pitcher Annibal Sanchez went 5.0 innings as he gave up two runs on five hits for his first win of the season. Left hander Drew Smyly will get the start for the Tigers on Monday as he comes in with a 2-2 record in 33.1 innings of work as he has put up a 2.70 ERA. Smyly went 6.0 innings in his last start as he gave up one run on five hits and struck out seven Baltimore Orioles, but he took a no decision as his team won 4-1 on the road. Detroit is 13-3 in its L/16 road games coming into action on Monday as it is riding an 11 game road winning streak.
The Indians lost their third straight game on Saturday as the Oakland Athletics beat them 6-2 in Cleveland. Shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera accounted for both runs as he had an RBI and a run scored in the loss. Cleveland managed just seven hits in the game and left five runners on base. Pitcher Josh Tomlin had a strong outing as he threw 6.0 innings giving up three runs on five hits, but took his first loss of the year. On Monday right hander Corey Kluber will be on the mound for the Indians as he comes in with a 3.38 ERA in 58.2 innings and he has a 4-3 record thus far. He was dominant in his last start as he gave up just two runs on four hits and struck out nine Toronto Blue Jays in a 15-4 win on the road. Cleveland’s offense is hitting just .208 against left handed pitchers this season and scoring just 3.33 runs per nine innings as it tries to end a three game losing streak.
The Tigers are one of the strongest teams in baseball right now with a lineup that can hit the ball hard from top to bottom and some of the best pitchers in the game. Detroit has won 35 of its L/52 meetings with Cleveland and has been on a roll away from home this season. Smyly will have a big night for the Tigers and shut this Indians team down and we expect the offense to do just enough to get them another win on the road.
